whats better, dual-core or core duo?

about to order a computer, don't know whats better and what the difference is, help me out!
dual core VS. core 2 duo?

NTM 05-24-2007 07:28 AM

core duo = intel, and they are better

Ravage 05-24-2007 07:39 AM

Its the same thing dude. Core duo is just the branding that Intel calls their dual-core processors.

Now, if you're asking about AMD X2 vs Intel C2D; thats a different story.

Go Intel. AMD is lacking big time against Intel's C2D

well i think that code duo is is two cpus but they share the same cache

when dual core, its two separate cpus with cache and everything, just they are on the same motherboard

so the second one should be better and more expensive as well

Screaming 05-24-2007 07:59 AM

i prefer amd over intel personally

fris 05-24-2007 08:00 AM

i just boughta core 2 duo intel e6600 about 15 mins ago

Michaelious 05-24-2007 08:04 AM

Bought a Core 2 duo notebook two weeks ago and I'm blown away by the performance :thumbsup

The older Pentium D (2006) were called "dual core" but they are vastly inferior to the current Core 2 Duo (2007) also from Intel. I own both Pentium D and an E6600 series Core 2 Duo with 4 Mb cache. Of course Core 2 Quad owns them both.

For server go dual core opteron or better.
For home PC go core duo Intel.

They are different CPUs designed for different kind of work. You can drive very good a database on an opteron box, but you will have better peformance in games, office and any other home applications with a core duo.

Go for quad core. 1.33Ghz bus and 1Ghz DDR3 ;)

c2d is better than core duo...less power draining and faster bus...i think the cache was bigger as well. (2x2mb if i remember right)

Pornwolf 05-24-2007 02:30 PM

Core 2 duo only.

there are some different exact lingo used
that can be potentially confusing or misleading
as the technogoly and products have been
progressively developed and improved they have
used slight variations of terminology in reference
to them, so be careful and compare the specs.

core 2 duo is newer and better than core duo (without the 2)

so there will be like other exact names used later when they go to 4 and so on, etc.

compare specs like I said

and look at model numbers of chips too
not just the most general name it has
like T7200 is a core 2 duo like I have

keep these kinds of things in mind :)
