because they're being trendy trying to be unique. lots of people have tattoos with the exact same style. i dont think its much different than people with different tribal tattoos. hell, even tribal tattoos as gay as they are have a meaning. i dont know what kind of meaning you get out of a hand with sushi fingers.

That's more what I was thinking. No doubt the artist has got skills, and to it to ink with such detail is really amazing, but I wouldn't use Dali as my comparison.
