She was taken handcuffed and crying from her home. She was escorted into court disheveled, without makeup, hair askew and face red with tears.

Crying out for her mother when she was ordered back to jail, Paris Hilton's cool, glamorous image evaporated Friday as she gave the impression of a little girl lost in a merciless legal system.

"It's not right!" shouted the weeping Hilton. "Mom!" she called out to Kathy Hilton, who also was in tears.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress tried to move toward her parents but was steered away by two sheriff's deputies, who held her by each arm and hustled her from the courtroom.

Well I for one don't "hate" Paris Hilton, in fact if anything I find her a somewhat tragic figure. When people of her ilk act as though they think they are at the centre of the universe and that their privaleged position should mean that the normal rules of society don't apply to them you can't blame people for cocking a snoot at them when they end up on their arse.

Paris Hilton Won't Appeal Jail Sentence

A day after a tearful Paris Hilton was ordered back to jail, the hotel heiress said she won't appeal her 45-day jail sentence and is "learning and growing" from her time behind bars.

Her change of heart came Saturday when she announced in a statement released by one of her attorneys that she won't fight her sentence after a brief stint under house arrest at her Hollywood Hills home.

"Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said in the statement. "While I greatly appreciate the sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, I intend to serve my time at L.A. County Jail."

Hilton, in tears and screaming for her mother, was taken to the downtown Twin Towers facility Friday afternoon after Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered her back to jail.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," she said in the statement. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience."

Hilton added she was "shocked" by the attention her case has received and suggested the public and media focus on "more important things like the men and women serving our country in Iraq."

Her lawyers had sought to keep her out of jail on grounds that the 26-year-old was suffering an unspecified medical condition. Sauer suggested that could be taken care of at jail medical facilities.

Although authorities wouldn't discuss Hilton's condition, citing privacy laws, Sheriff Lee Baca indicated it was psychological.

He said she arrived at her original jail with a condition he hadn't been apprised of and that it immediately began to deteriorate to the point that he feared for her safety.

Sheriff's officials expect Hilton to be at Twin Towers at least through Sunday.

Which jail the heiress will end up at depends on the results of her assessment by the facility's doctors.

Sauer sentenced Hilton to 45 days in jail and said she could not serve it at home. When she was released she had served only three full days but was credited with five because she surrendered to authorities late Sunday night after attending the MTV Movie Awards and was released early Thursday morning. Before her release, she was fitted with an ankle bracelet and ordered not to leave her house until her sentence was up.

Hilton was expected to serve only 23 days because of a state law that requires shorter sentences for good behavior. She was credited with both her time served in jail and at home, so by Saturday she had completed seven days of her sentence. With time off for good behavior, she could be released in a little more than two weeks.

Hilton's path to jail began Sept. 7, when she failed a sobriety test after police saw her weaving down a street in her Mercedes-Benz on what she said was a late-night run to a hamburger stand.

She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

In the months that followed, she was stopped twice by officers who discovered her driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer's courtroom, where he sentenced her to jail.

One day Paris Hilton is screaming for her mommy as she is cuffed and taken to the pokey in a reckless driving case. The next, she's the model of magnanimity, saying she wouldn't appeal her 45-day sentence and that she is "learning and growing" from her time behind bars.

Hilton Says She'll No Longer 'Act Dumb'

Paris Hilton says she is locking up her "dumb" act and throwing away the key. Hilton revealed her new outlook in a weekend phone call to Barbara Walters from a county jail medical ward where she is serving out a 45-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

"I used to act dumb. It was an act. I am 26 years old, and that act is no longer cute," Hilton said during the call, according to an account posted by Walters on ABC's Web site.

"It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me."

After spending three days in jail last week, Hilton was briefly released to electronically monitored home confinement Thursday for an undisclosed medical condition. An outraged judge sent her back to jail Friday.

According to ABC News, the call came after Hilton's mother, Kathy, phoned Walters. During the conversation, Paris Hilton called her mother on another line, found out her mother was talking to Walters, and then called Walters collect. All jail inmates are required to call collect.

Hilton reiterated assertions that jail has changed her: "Now, I would like to make a difference. ... God has given me this new chance."

development, the Rev. Al Sharpton met with Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca on Monday and told reporters afterward that Hilton's situation exemplified an unfair legal system.

Baca has denied giving any special treatment to Hilton by reassigning her to home detention.

Also Monday, a claim against the county was announced by a black woman who has a prosthetic leg and was recently an inmate at the same jail where Hilton was held last week.

Her attorney, Gloria Allred, said Pamela Richardson, 51, also "had serious medical issues" but was treated much worse than Hilton. A claim against a government entity is a precursor to a lawsuit.

Paris Hilton has been transferred out of a medical ward at a Los Angeles County jail and returned to the all-women's facility where she began her sentence for a probation violation more than a week ago, a sheriff's official said Thursday.

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, she was returned to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, Lt. Daryl Meeks told The Associated Press. Meeks would not elaborate on where in that facility the heiress was housed. When she began her 45-day sentence there on June 3, she was confined to a cell in a special unit away from other inmates.

Hilton's case caused a firestorm when she was released from Lynwood last week by sheriff's officials to serve the remainder of her sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case in home confinement.

Sheriff Lee Baca said Hilton was released because of an undisclosed medical condition. Critics said the celebrity was getting special treatment, and an outraged judge sent her back to jail Friday.
