Built my first computer!

Took like 8 hours...I even read instructions! :1orglaugh

It's an E6600 with a EVGA motherboard

I still need to get some 2g ddr2 memory but i don't know what is good. Right now it's running off some HP ddr2 512x2 and I need to put in the 8800gt

And I still can't quite grasp what is RAID like if one drive gets coruppted then because they are all in series they all get coruuppted?? :helpme

:Oh crap:1orglaugh

Anyhoo it was a good experience here is a picture of the inside ....some of the topics on here were very helpful thanks!

Good job, you save alot of money that way, I would stay away from raid on your system

edgeprod 06-18-2007 12:38 PM

Congrats! :)

If you can do without the service of a major company, building it is definitely the way to go. I need "instant" replacement of faulty parts, so this isn't, unfortunately, an option for my "work" machine.

Thanks Jimmy and edgepro :thumbsup ! I did save money so it was good....I mean i was scared that I was going to burn it up but after I got the motherboard in it was more relaxing :1orglaugh. ...actually a fun time :)

You guys think I should stay awy from the RAID....ok :)

tranza 06-18-2007 01:08 PM

Looks good.... Is it working??

Scott McD 06-18-2007 01:11 PM

Better off building your own rather than dealing with those assholes from Dell...

Unless you're overclocking it, stick with stock speed DDR2. You'll get no benefit out of faster ram if you're not going to run it at the rated speeds. I've got 2 gigs (2x1gig) of G.SKILL so I could run dual channel. Ram prices are way better right now than 6 months ago. I just bought 2 gigs for what I spent on 1 gig in the fall.

Ketchup 06-18-2007 01:15 PM

Yes tranza it's started of just fine and is runng good...I'm gonna give it a week before I put anything important on it yet just to make sure it doesn't decide to fall apart or whatever :1orglaugh

Oh really Scott :Oh crap ...cause I was looking to buy a dell last week before I went and got the parts :1orglaugh

Ok so would that be your recomendation... the G skill? I guess you mean this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

I might overclock it later when I figure out all that but for now I'll leave it as it is.

Thanks ungratefulninja

I didn't say that.

I have RAID in mine, with over 1TB of storage.

ahh ok sorry so you can just keep adding these hard drives for more storage? Is that all it is more storage. but if one fails does that mean you loose your data?

Sorry i leanered alot this weekend but still don't know so much :Oh crap:) but I'm working on it :1orglaugh

Depends on the type of RAID. Wikipedia it.

Congrats! I've made my first computer in 1991. It was a clone of Sinclair ZX-Spectrum 48K as far as I remember :)
