$10,000 to start a site...

If you had $10,000 to start a brand new site, assuming you know nobody really so trades wouldn't be easy what would you make?

If I use your idea and I earn my money back, I will paypal/epassporte you $1000 for helping.

The Ghost 06-19-2007 06:30 PM

Freesite or paysite?

DaddyHalbucks 06-19-2007 06:30 PM

Yipes, seems like a low budget, but I am sure it is possible.

What kind of content do you have?

i'd spend $300 on a nice design, and $400 on a custom script, and then i would spend $9,700 on advertising to get the site up to making $10k+ a month so i can get an ROI of 200%+ in 2-3 months

edgeprod 06-19-2007 06:57 PM

$10k?

Why not just invest it elsewhere until you can afford a real site?

After Shock Media 06-19-2007 06:59 PM

A solid network of mainstream and adult blogs with real written content and not just subscribed feeds.

Very minor software investment and you can use most of your budget for the writing budget.

P.S. I do not mean blogs that look like TGP sites either. REAL BLOGS.

i don't understand why people say that... unless hes talking about an affiliate program or something, you can make a very profitable and successful site with less then $100...

Madrox is right, if you're smart and have a good business mind and idea you can do A LOT with 10k... anyone who says you can't is trying to pretend to be a 'big boy' (But are still trying to figure out how to make their Ford Focus payment this month)

After Shock Media 06-19-2007 08:13 PM

To add to my suggestion, do not just focus on the English language either.

if you start your own affiliate program, probably.. but if you're promoting another company, you shouldn't have to purchase any content to promote them, they should supply it

leedogg 06-19-2007 10:56 PM

I wouldn't have spent 10k in the 5 years I had worked in adult
Depends what kind of expectations you have

If you are doing it as your bread and butter, and want to make 100K a year it might not be enough.

If you are part timing to supplement your salary or wage $1k is more than enough if you play it smart and know what you want to achieve.

However, coming in with money and no game plan can be a bad start!

crockett 06-19-2007 11:07 PM

Put your 10k back in the bank until you can answer the question for yourself. That means read a lot and learn before you dump money into anything.

Personally I read the forums for about 3 to 4 months before I did anything.

tolik 06-19-2007 11:14 PM

hm
what kind of site?

i have some working plans. all depends how fast you need return invested funds.

sexxxydesign.com 06-19-2007 11:14 PM

Nails 06-19-2007 11:23 PM

I know starting a paysite would be very difficult on $10k, but it can be done I am being told (Lease feeds, use sponsor content for galleries inside your member area) ...

I was looking at trying to make a site that would return $3-4k a month, so some sort of free site (or network of sites) .. Such as Tgps, Blogs, Link Directory etc.

tolik 06-20-2007 12:11 AM

msg me via icq and we talk.

have some ideas for you what i have not enough time for working at right now.

crockett 06-20-2007 12:12 AM

Blogs and Babelogs seems to be the ticket right now. Used to be TGP's/MGP's but you typically have to be able to build a lot of traffic to make any money in TGP's these days.

To make good money with a "new" TGP you need to be able to get it to the 150k to 200k range and that takes time and experance.

Best bet is to look into blogs and maybe even mainstream over adult.

Well no matter what all the girls keep telling you.. Longer is better.. :1orglaugh

shermo 06-20-2007 12:50 AM

Simple answer is that $10k is plenty of money to turn a profit. The long answer would entail figuring out the type of site, traffic sources, design work, and how much of it you can bring to the table yourself.

Rumbo 06-20-2007 02:14 AM

start an adult site for webmasters :2 cents:

StarkReality 06-20-2007 02:54 AM

I'd go with some well designed blogs with real quality content, building a solid little network should be fast and easy with $10k.

Forget about a paysite with $10k, you need to invest alot in exclusive content and marketing to webmasters/affiliates, plus in house traffic if you want to have a competitive site. Only exception would be a very rare, unique niche with very little competition, but you need profund knowledge about the niche.

So, before swimming with the sharks, better build a free network first, if it works out for you, you can invest the money in a paysite and you even got some traffic to play with already.

I guess it depends on how you define "successful" or "very profitable" ... and the time-frame you want to reach those goals in. It's not the 90's, it's not "Oh, look, it's a tit, here's my money."

Anyone disputing that is running a program no one has ever heard of, and thinking their "Ford Focus" payment (ha ha -- that was a good one!) makes them a pimp. :2 cents:

if you're making more money off your site then it takes for you to live a comfortable life, i'd say thats profitable and successful
