Coach, 40, Weds 16-Year-Old Student
Anguished Parents Sign Consent Forms, Saying They Had No Choice

June 22, 2007 ?

The Hagers are trying to figure out how life went off track for their teenage daughter, Windy.

They envisioned that life for the good student and promising athlete would be filled with dreams of the prom and college, but that all changed this week when Windy, 16, married her high school track coach.

"She was a dream kid," said her mother, Betty Hager. "We'd never have to worry about Windy trying to get by with something."

At South Brunswick High School in North Carolina, Windy's greatest passion was track and field.

"She just always was outside, always running, and her name's Windy I guess she was predestined to do love to do that," Betty said.

But that passion led her down a troubling path.

Special Attention From Coach

During Windy's freshman year, her 38-year-old track coach, Brenton Wuchae, began taking a more active interest in her, offering to give the 14-year-old rides home from practice.

"He just seemed like a genuine guy, like he was there for the kids," said Windy's father, Dennis Hager.

But the Hagers eventually grew uneasy. Their phone bills showed text messages between Wuchae and Windy as late as 2 a.m.

They also discovered worrying e-mails. In one, Windy wrote to a friend, "I don't care to look at anyone other than him. He is the apple of my eye, I've never felt this way for someone, but I just don't want to lose him because of my parents' power trips."

The Hagers confronted Wuchae.

"He assured me there was nothing like that going on, [and that] they were just friends. His intentions were purely appropriate," Dennis said.

Not satisfied with that answer, the Hagers turned to the school district, which spoke to the coach.

The principal of the high school wrote to the Hagers, "I have seen nothing but a cooperative attitude from the teacher, and to the best of my knowledge, he has not had any contact with Windy since then."

"School officials can't be responsible for what happens the other hours of the day, and I would think the relationship developed much more outside of school," said Brian Shaw, an attorney for the school district.

The Hagers contacted police; they even tried to get a restraining order.

"We've tried everybody. We've been to the law. We've been to the school board," Betty said. "Our family has come and tried to talk to her. We've had people on the phone with her for hours family, friends. We've been to our pastor asking for guidance. We've been to his pastor."

Meanwhile, the Hagers say Windy withdrew, refusing to speak to them until she asked them to sign a consent form so that she and her coach a man more than twice her age could get married.

Although anguished, her weary parents gave in.

"Signing those consent forms was the hardest thing I did in my whole life, but we had to move on, it was going to kill us all," Dennis said.

Monday, Windy and Wuchae married, and he resigned from the school.

But was Windy really old enough to understand her decision? Experts say it's a difficult situation.

"With most teenagers, they're not sure yet who's who and what's what and what should be done," said Henry Paul, author of the book "Is My Teenager OK?" "It's obviously up to the adult figure to set the boundaries."

Windy and her new husband would not comment for this story, but the Hagers realize what they've lost.

"She could have done anything," Betty said. "She could have set the world on fire. She threw it all away."

Hmm...

That's rather jacked up.

Result of weak parenting, imho. Parents couldn't stand the silent treatment, so they gave in? Should have locked the girl in her room until she was 18, if need be, and paid the coach a visit with Mr. Crowbar in tow.

KimJI 06-22-2007 09:36 AM

They look like father and daughter in that picture. The face have so many similarities

JP-pornshooter 06-22-2007 09:38 AM

doesnt sound too bad.. least he is not a pornographer..and she is 16, an age where in many cultures, it is time for marriage and children.

If she had stayed in the track and field, the chances would have been a lot higher that she would have ended up munching rug.

At least this way she is straight.

BlackCrayon 06-22-2007 10:08 AM

Dude looks wired. Sounds like a story from the backwoods. Who names their kid Windy..unless you can't spell.

jprole 06-22-2007 10:09 AM

This guy gets off scot free and the hot female teachers that fulfill every middle school boy's dream go to jail.. some system!

frostyimpressions 06-22-2007 10:15 AM

Lucky girl. I've always wanted to bone hot 40 year old guys when I was 16. haha..But in all seriousness, what the hell? Those parents are pussies for not laying down the law.

I'll say it lasts 5 years. That brings her to 21, an age where her friends are all out doing stuff that she will realize she's missing out on.

ADL Josh 06-22-2007 10:21 AM

wow, that's kinda crazy!...if they live happily ever after than more power to 'em, but you don't see that too often with these type of situations.

TheSenator 06-22-2007 10:22 AM

The track coach would have gotten his ass seriously kick(actually more of a humilation by me submitting him unconscious and pissing on him) by me personally in front of the entire school staff. I would claim in court that I went crazy, sue the teacher who made me crazy, then sue school board.

carol.prime 06-22-2007 10:25 AM

omg!!!.. she's too young...
i wonder if they could last long..

Shoehorn! 06-22-2007 10:28 AM

How fucking stupid of the girl, the coach should be put in jail, and the parents are morons for signing the papers.

Can't people discipline control their kids anymore, they give in when they get the silent treatment for a few days?

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-22-2007 10:55 AM

she's 16 and a male is paying attention to her. of course she's in love. Furthermore, those parents should be hit with something very hard, repeatedly. She was mother fucking 14 when they met, this guy is a pedo.

haha exactly... way bad parenting

dougeetx 06-22-2007 12:05 PM

My plan of action if he was messing with my daughter:

1) Ask him to stop talking to her.
2) Give him a stern talking to.
3) Pay some neighborhood kids to egg his house.
4) Kick his ass.
5) Kick his ass again.
6) Kick his ass so bad he's in the hospital.
7) Break a few bones and put him back in the hospital.
8) Kill him and throw him in the swamps in Louisiana and watch him slowly get devoured by the alligators.

Whoops! Did I say that last one out loud!

Dopy 06-22-2007 12:09 PM

If he was some famous person worth millions the story would be different. They should look on the bright side and start cashing in.

If it had been some other country, like the UK, it would have been a non-issue... Yeah, the fact that he is her high school coach makes it icky.. But, in most countries of the world 16(or lower) is age of consent..

collegeboobies 06-22-2007 01:36 PM

Those parents are just idiots. Name your daughter Windy and that happens. If your daughter is texting her coach at 2am you take her fucking phone away.

madawgz 06-22-2007 01:38 PM

Only reason he married her was so he could legally fuck her. In a couple years she will wise up and he would have gotten away with fucking a 16 year old without going to jail for it.

After Shock Media 06-22-2007 01:45 PM

Aside from him being an authority figure of sorts for her. In almost every single damn culture in the world this would be a non issue. Sixteen is not that young and even was not that young in this country not to long ago, as in the past 50 years.

As for the person who called him a pedo, go find a dictionary please.

MrLuvr 06-22-2007 01:48 PM

I think adult webmasters should be the last to jump on the morality bandwagon considering many make their money peddling 18 years olds dressed up as 14 year olds.. LOL..

tranza 06-22-2007 01:58 PM

That's no good...

16yr olds and 40yr olds don't live in the same world. Why would she want to marry someone as old as her father? Issues for sure. Not sure why people think its normal. Where im from if you're 26 with a 16 yr old people wonder whats wrong with you. Thats not as bad but i simply can't see how a 16 yr old and a 40 yr old can be anywhere near the same wavelength.

I don't need a dictionary to know what pedophile means, but here's the definition anyway:

ped·o·phile (pĕd'ə-fīl', pē'də-) pronunciation
n.

An adult who is sexually attracted to a child or children.

Since I consider a 14 year old to be a child, I consider someone attracted to a 14 year old to be a pedophile. It's pretty black and white to me at that age, and I was a 14 year old girl once.

And who are you to decide that? She's probably making a mistake but she's
free to do so. Just like she's free once she realizes she made a mistake to
get a divorce. :2 cents:

It usually means prepubescent children.

By the way, I suppose your ok with the assumption that many of our great grandparents and prior generations were all pedo's right?

If anything he would be considered a hebephile. Regardless, she's 16 now and to the majority of the world this is an non-issue.

There have been many succesful marriages in history which consisted of a very young female and an older male. Actually now that i think about it, i belive that is how the human is designed. An older male has had his experience is wiser and have collected some wealth, the female is young, fertile and ready to bear children. Not everyone on earth lives in the pop culture bubble..
I agree, it is not "normal" in our current culture but i dont think it is anything worth even considering. I dont think he is a pedo, pedos usually dont like fully developed females..most females are fully developed by age 16.

There is a possibility that this girl hasn't had her first period. I hadn't at that age. But even if she has, I would still consider her a child. I have a younger brother who was 14 just 4 years ago. The female friends his age that would hang out were children, acted like children, and looked like children. Just becasue some 14 year olds go around dressed like MTV video babes doesn't make them adults. Period.

There is a social aspect here as well. 100 years ago, at 14, a male OR female would have been much more mature. They would be out working on a farm, or doing something productive and MAYBE attending school if they were lucky, not playing video games, chatting on myspace and going to watch Shrek at the movie theatre. Life expectancy also plays a factor.

Furhtermore, we have progressed a lot as a society and a lot of things that USED to be ok are NOT ok anymore, like slavery, poor working conditions in factories, oh, and women can vote now. Marrying little girls to old men was a product of a different time.

I see your posts a lot and you seem very intelligent, and I respect your opinion on this, but please don't think this is something I just arbitrarily decided to cry "pedo" on. I have pretty in depth opinions about this, and a lot of things as a matter of fact :)

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-22-2007 02:40 PM

By the way, I was referring to her age when they met, not now... And I predict that when she starts looking like a women and not a girl/teen, he'll leave her for another 16 year old.
