BoyAlley, in here please (card magic trick question)
I have a bet with a friend, I am telling him that it's a trick deck, he is telling me that it isn't.
So this guy has a deck of cards asks you to pick a card, and put it in the middle he does a cut, and then takes out the card and asks you "Is this your card?" The card is NOT your card, so then he says ok hold on, and he waves it around in his hand and the card changes into the card that you actually picked. So is this trick done with a trick deck? or a normal deck? thanks yo |

The trick is 2 stage: Stage #1 is the "control" Stage #2 is the "flourish production" The easiest way to control a card that's inserted into the middle is by using a slight called "the pass". The fact that the magician "cut the deck" pretty much confirms to me that's what he's using. The production of the chosen card is a type of "color change" flourish, and there are literally dozens of different kinds so i'd actually have to see it to tell you which one he used. Here's a video of an asian boy that thinks he's a white guy that thinks he's a black guy performing "The pass" and a variant of a "Color change" flourish: http://www.sharkle.com/video/31872/ Here's an explanation of "the pass" http://www.classicmagic.net/tricks/s90.php |

Yet more proof of just how very very gay I really am. :thumbsup |
BA yo, ok let me be a little more clear
Ok so lets say I picked the Q of spades, he takes the Q of spades in his right hand and the rest of the deck in his left hand then he shakes his right hand and the Q of spades becomes the 2 of hearts. (no deck passing in front of it or anything) still a normal deck? |
David Blane can do that... LOL!!! :1orglaugh

Yeah, that's a classic color change flourish, and there are many many different ways to do it. It's definitely not a trick deck. Usually it's just a "double lift" where 2 cards are picked up and manipulated as one. The magician then literally just flips the cards back to back and rotates them, creating the illusion of the change. He can then palm off 1 of the cards and drop your card on the table or hand it to you or whatever without you ever realizing there were 2 cards in play. Sorry sorry, you lost the bet. You lose. You are not teh wins. All your monies are belong to your friend. Sux. If I am ever at a convention someday I will show you and you can buy me a cosmopolitan and stuff. |
BA yo, thanks alot for all the help
