google site: spider date question
what is the easiest way to determine when google spidered a site last?
also, is there an easy way to determine how often google spiders a site? |
Hi jetjet
If you are using a counter such will show up for you. Check you server and if it does not have a counter then look around for one ... I would suggest http://www.statcounter.com/ ( such is free and allows adult )

Check out Google Webmasters Tools @ www.google.com/webmasters/tools there you can see last crawl date, crawl activity, incoming links ++

when checking a site of mine, google/webmasters/tools shows that "Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on May 23, 2007"
which is over a month ago?? but when I google my site it shows a latest cache date of June 20, 2007 can you explain that? |
Hey jetjet
Yea I can explain...
When Google spiders the billions of websites it uses many of its servers to cache the changes on the many web masters sites... There are many servers doing the spider ing work; such might pick up the websites a bit differently from another of its own... When you check Googles info for your site(s) you are checking one or so of its "datacenters" which may or may not be up to date with its other "datacenters"... There for it is very possible to get conflicting data when checking on your site(s)... As far as I understand it this is accurate ... Drop a line to Google as they are very helpful so if you have any questions... do yourself a favor and read their online documentation... this will help you out a lot... :) Hopes this helps you out... :) Later, . |
I always know when Google last visited by pages using AwStats or checking the logs on my server myself.

Interesting!
