If you saw a cop leave his headlights on would you tell him?

I was at a drive-through burrito joint when I saw a couple of cops park at Denny's and get out and start walking down the street like they were on their break or something. While I watched them gather their things, I recalled someone on GFY recently saying "cops are so dumb" or something like that. I'm not a cop hater, i hope there's one around if I ever have a serious problem and need one but I just couldnt bring myself to tell them that they left their headlights on. Then I took a pic from my phone because I knew some of you criminals (jk) would enjoy it.

Yeah i would tell them they are just regular people like us doing there job....

eroswebmaster 07-21-2007 09:59 PM

My dad would pull them over to let them know they weren't on in the night...god forbid a cop pull through a red light and go get some dinner...my dad would have their field officer / supervisor out there to chastise them...my dad actually kicked a deputy sheriff in the nuts in Arkansas after he scraped the hood of his new Chrysler with his flashlight...no joke. Sheriff showed up and said..."boy if you know what's good for you, you'll get out of town."
so we hightailed it to the hotel we were staying across the state line in Missouri.

Theo The Theologian 07-21-2007 10:02 PM

Certainly. It's the right thing to do.

GreyWolf 07-21-2007 10:09 PM

Sure... would say. Tho chances are it's more likely to be the reverse with me :winkwink:

rowan 07-21-2007 10:26 PM

I doubt they'd be leaving it for long enough to impact the next start, the cars probably have a higher capacity electrical system anyway.

Then again... did you just want to be a smartass by pointing out to a cop that he did something wrong? :Graucho

SilentKnight 07-21-2007 10:34 PM

If they were within earshot, sure...I'd tell'em. Just like anyone else. And not to be a smartass - just a good samaritan. I'd appreciate anyone who took the time to do the same favour.

Hating cops in general because of a few bad experiences with not-so-good cops...is just dumbass.

not really. I actually noticed that they were leaving them on but wasn't sure if they were those auto shut-off ones or what and by the time i realized they weren't, the cops were already gone. I'm not so bad.

Mr Bond 07-21-2007 10:42 PM

You will fuck a cop one day. Or more likely he will fuck you.

Sure you tell them, it's just the right thing to do. Most likely, they had a timer on the car, but its still polite, and shows that you have manners. Unlike some people.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh some are , some are greasy slimy thieves who would like nothing better than to beat you with a phonebook because you thought you would be a smartass and tell them their lights are off. :winkwink:

your right in one respect though, they are just like everyone else. no better no worse.

wish i could say it was different but personal experience says it just aint so.

pr0 07-21-2007 11:42 PM

thats like saying, would you tell a plumber his lights were still on

my answer

depends on if the guy looks like an asshole or not

bobby666 07-21-2007 11:46 PM

no and never

D 07-22-2007 12:11 AM

As it's possible they'd auto-shut off, I wouldn't say anything myself.

And like's been mentioned, I wouldn't feel bad - I'm sure patrol cars have a lot more battery power than the standard car... redundancies and backups and all that.

Humpy Leftnut 07-22-2007 12:16 AM

I think that by you not telling the police the truth, you are at the very least an al qaeda terrorist.

ServerGenius 07-22-2007 12:55 AM

I won't! eventually they go off by them selves anyway

nah man, they were on for good. I was in that take out line for a good bit of time. more than a few minutes

Xplicit 07-22-2007 01:07 AM

About %50 of cops do it for the right reason.

The other %50 are generally uneducated, immature, power hungry idiots who know they would never be able to gain a position of authority any other way, since the business world requires a certain amount of intelligence they know they don't have.

So just incase they were in the 2nd catagory, i say fuck em'.

That's some funny shit .. my first :1orglaugh of the day ..

Will Black 07-22-2007 06:33 AM

Yeah, I prob would. Why not, the cop could be one of the nice guys. You also get to score some brownie points that could come in handy one day.

Blue Player 07-22-2007 06:38 AM

I would let them. KNowing my luck I would need them 30 minutes later and would ring 999 and be told "Sorry police cant come as his car is being bump started".

:) :)

I would tell them if they were in earshot and I was out of the car.

Zuzana Designs 07-22-2007 06:58 AM

I would for sure...

Jarmusch 07-22-2007 07:09 AM

Everytime I see a cop I run the other way, so the answer is no.
