Why the Iraq war was good for non American webmasters

http://www.projectcensored.org/publi...s/2004/19.html

Quite interesting that Iraq had started trading in Euros creating a 17% rise in the Euro. If America hadnt gone to war many more countries may have gone over resulting in an even worse dollar situation than we now have.

People can go on about how much the war has cost, the bottom line is this, you have to pay the army if they are at home or at war so the actuall costs arent as much as people think.

buzzy 07-23-2007 07:12 PM

id rather 600 thousand iraqi people didnt die thanks

jonesonyou 07-23-2007 07:14 PM

If your making money in Iraq its all good for you. If not you can bitch and moan like everyone else.

CDSmith 07-23-2007 07:14 PM

What did congress agree to 4 or so years ago?... something close to $100 billion for the war. And how much every year since?

I think it cost them plenty.

And the US--CAN exchange is pitiful now. 5 years ago it was great. 6 years ago it was spectacular.

Not much else to say really.

teg0 07-23-2007 07:17 PM

Its not really a war anymore. Its the "iraq occupation'

So would I. Sorry I had a Republician moment and wanted to try to justify the war to the non American webmaster community and the benefits that it has brought them.

Since war began +- 4 years ago, 3636 casualties and counting...
That gives that everyday more than 2 American soldiers die.

I doubt it. If America had not gone to war I'm guess the USD would be stronger than it is today, the war creates uncertainty and probably hastens other countries wanting to diversify their foreign currency reserves.

pocketkangaroo 07-23-2007 07:56 PM

Since most programs pay in USD, wouldn't this be bad for non-US webmasters?

So what was the casualty number per MINUTE on the first days of WW2? War sucks, people die, but 3600 is very small for a 4 year war.

luckily 600 thousand haven't died - the actual number is far lower than that

Lets not compare WW2 to the Iraq War. One was necessary, the other wasn't.

What is the number then? Public health experts reported it in the 6 figures back in 2004. The documented accounts are closing in on 6 figures alone (and there are certainly tons of undocumented).

Anyway you look at it, a lot of human beings have died.

In respect to Canadian dollar, I can see par within the next 2 years. :2 cents:

that is a post of 9 months ago ... I would have lost another 30K ....

The US economy/dollar value would prob not be as low today if there was no "war", but don't doubt it would still be weak - mainly due to consistant consumption beyond a level the country can pay for.

Iraq may have been the first of OPEC countries to adopt the Euro and that was reversed and forced on Iraq by the current US admin. Whether that status quo remains is another issue. There have been mutterings at OPEC of changing the currency base for oil for a few years now and one factor promoting that concept is the variation in US dollar value.

Anything can happen in the Middle East - at the moment there appears to be a lack of sparkle in relationship with the US. If that gets more "anti" and the dollar keeps declining, there is a fair chance OPEC may elect to switch to Euros.

The effect of an oil currency not based on dollars would be devastating for the US and in effect, reduce that country to the ranking of third world status in economic terms. Seriously doubt OPEC, or others, have any desire to see that happen - however, unless the US gets a grip on it's own economy, it is more and more possible that scenario will be on the table at OPEC meetings for discussion.

At the same time the Middle East pressure cooker is steaming, there is also another economic "threat" from Asia and a shift in the world's economic powerhouse. This will happen either way and is unstoppable, but any western country needs to be in a stable economic condition to accept these changes. The US is probably the most unfit of any western country to handle this change and is already borrowing heavily on a daily basis from the future "world bankers" in Asia.

About $ to € conversion i have heard analysts saying that will go to 1.43 or 1.45 till end of the year and then recover to 1.35+-...

fake numbers, right, coming from you, i guess you have experience with inflating your numbers and showing them off on the board.

Anyway the 600k figure was from 06, it's close to a million now apparantly.

I do wipe my arse on dollars. I have 5 $20 bills stuck by my toilet so when my American buddies come over they can see what I think of their currency.

Holland maybe bad try living in England. It is over $2 to each £1 now.
