Never got a console modded, it hardly seems worth the risk. I don't think the warranty would cover it if you screwed it up putting in a chip.

Isn't it true that if you put one on an XBox they'll ban you from Live?

If you put one on an XBox you need to have a disable function if you want to go live. They disable any system that isn't exactly right to avoid cheating.
