BYE BYE VISTA - hello XP (again)!

yeah, point fingers and laugh....it was a good run for a few weeks, but MAN there is a LOT of work that need to be done to that OS before I will EVER try it again

so many bugs it isn't funny

if you are a windows power user DO NOT install vista.....meaning if you work your machines so hard they smoke sometimes, don't do it!

after that fiasco I might just run xp forever

Lifer 08-03-2007 12:21 AM

Welcome back

I'm just glad I bought XP Pro while it was still on the market

WWC 08-03-2007 12:23 AM

Thats why i waited....sorry to hear all the headache you had.....

zeruel 08-03-2007 12:23 AM

Jace 08-03-2007 12:27 AM

seriously, I have a athlon 64 x2 dual core with 4gb of ram

and IT SUCKED....

you would think with those specs any OS would FLY.....not vista...LOL

back to xp and I am already at least 5x faster

I hear you. Lucky it's only on my laptop. I'm gonna wait a good long time before I infect any more of my computers with the Vista Virus...

Pornwolf 08-03-2007 12:51 AM

Vista sucks compared to XP.

TheJimmy 08-03-2007 12:59 AM

living up to it's rep as bloatware...I have a 6 year old POS dell box that's rocking with ubuntu on it...watches Bill & company fade out at the same time...bye bye

4Pics 08-03-2007 01:04 AM

Seems fast on a quadcore I played with at Frys. You don't have the latest processor, what score did it say you had? The machine I was messing with had a 5.6. Everything but memory was 5.9 though.

yeah, sure was

it detected it at install and install the 64 bit

fucking bloatware

the longer it stayed up the worse it got...I went on vacation and left it running while I was gone, when I got back it took almost 10 minutes to shut it down

see, it wasn't about short term....short term it was semi-good...it was doing long intensive tasks that required me to work on something for long periods

and I wouldn't say a dual core 64 processor with 4gb ram is "old"...it might not be the latest athlon put out, but it is better than 90% of people out there have

btw, it actually did show up in the vista "score" section as a 5.6

riddler 08-03-2007 03:54 AM

pretty sure the x64 version has some performance issues atm, microshit is releasing enhancements in a few weeks i believe..

ive never had a problem with vista one of the best software purchases ive bought in a long time.

stable as shit for me, runs fast, even with photoshop, premiere, dreamweave and other shit running being used it chugs right along.

riddler 08-03-2007 03:57 AM

here Jace if you want to give Vista a shot again here is some shit at neowin the community has come up with to fix the performance of 64bit version.

http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=41691

Only complaint i have with vista is when you first install it you gotta configure so much shit to stop it from being a over protecting noob computer..

i can see the noob proof features being good on a parents computer or something but other than that they are annoying.

I would just honestly rather stick with xp for now, at least til sp2 comes out for vista (or whatever they will call it)....i really think they jumped the gun releasing it

they did and they admitted it (finally)..

the stablity of vista is good but just they released it way to fast for the hardware companies to make drivers for it..

yeah, i really think you are right on the money there....the majority of my pains came from specific tasks that I do on that desktop regularly...editing video, etc

hell, the first thing I noticed when I loaded it up was this circle around my mouse that only showed up when I moved the mouse....so, any time I moved the mouse there was this circle that would strobe around it...I knew right then that vista was not ready, but that was a little thing that I could get used to

rendering video in premiere was insane though, the more it rendered the "task completed in:" time would go up....haha

btw, thanks for the suggestions...you seem to be really knowledgeable about vista..if I ever decide to try it again I will definitely hit you up and get some advice from ya :thumbsup

I have also heard a lot of bad things about the x64 version.
I used the 32bit version for 1-2 weeks when I got back to XP. Wee!
The version was stable, but used a lot memory.

The thing I really don't like about Vista is the crappy interface. Hate the windows when you browse through tons of porn galleries (maps). :P

Sen 08-03-2007 04:44 AM

vista is crap i had it for 2 weeks and kicked :)

And you don't have problems with sound, GFX or USB devices?

Maybe i should try it on the laptop to start with :)

Martin3 08-03-2007 05:05 AM

No problems here. Been using x64 ultimate since launch day. Was a die hard 2kpro user before that.
A lot faster then 2kpro and XP ever was for me. You got to know how to tweak it though. A lot of people just think it's a prettier version of XP and never really try to learn anything about it. Like all windows versions it's pretty bloated out of the box. Only shut it down once every few months to blow the dust out of the case.

System specs
Opteron 165 overclocked @ 2.7Ghz
2gigs ddr500
x1900xt

VicD 08-03-2007 05:06 AM

wait for a year and check it again...

yeah, the memory usage was INSANE...but i think that also comes from a lot of apps not being ready for vista quite yet and me using them

I don't want something I have to tweak out of the box to run better...I want something that is minimal out of the box that I tweak to beef up

that is how xp is for me, I can install a fresh copy, do all the updates and it is a pretty slim OS with bare bones only loaded from a fresh install.....vista was instant bloatware, I guess if I had a few days of free time to tweak it out and research shit, it would be great, but I just don't have that kind of time

Shoplifter 08-03-2007 05:14 AM

I actually like Vista..Much more secure than XP and I have a 4 gig USB stick inserted taking advantage of ReadyBoost which makes it even snappier.

jonesonyou 08-03-2007 05:24 AM

Running both. Vista on athlon 64 1 gig ram. Was very fast in the beginning, has slowed down since then.

Still running xp on the laptop and have no complaints.

There's quit a bit you need to tweak in XP as well. That's the main reason I stayed with 2kpro for 7 years. XP didn't do anything 2kpro couldn't do. It wasn't any faster or more stable.
Even today I'd still recommend 2kpro over XP. My only reason for using Vista is that it's simply faster for what I do on a daily basis once setup properly.

It's all personal preference though. Go with what ever OS you're most proficient on and causes you the least amount of stress.

Nice :)
Can you just buy a copy for PC, or du you have to crack and shit like in the beginning?

Ofc it's different, it's based on Unix - therefore it's nicer than Windoze :p

Think it's worth a try :)

I think XP is faster than W2K, but maybe it's me.

Eitherway Windows 2003 server is much faster than Windows 2000 server, but's that's another debate. :winkwink:

Ross 08-03-2007 05:41 AM

My brother sent his laptop to get fixed and also asked them to take Vista off and put XP on it for him. They did it no problem and told him everyone is doing the same. Seems not very many people like Vista.

After a couple of days i bought 1gb more so i now have 2gb. If you do some Photoshop 1gb is not enough for Vista.

I think that's true. A flot of apps aren't made specifically for Vista yet. Eventough i think Vista uses a lot more memory.
