Who's going back to college?

I dropped out of college around 98 , to pursue internet goldrush.
Made my dollars (few million) , Its been about a decade now.

Can't make a dollar now because of competition.

Thinking of going back to college.

I know quiet has also went back to college,

Anybody else doing the same thing or going back to a 9-5er such as citibank collect a $50-70k , doing simple work

Without innovating all the time?
I'm out of ideas lol , and it seems like getting traffic is harder then ever.

But most of all, internet is not forever, I can't see myself trying to exploit traffic opportunities for the next 20-30 years.

BlueDesignStudios 08-04-2007 08:29 PM

if you've made a few million, why not retire?

Drake 08-04-2007 08:32 PM

If you have a few million, take time off work and school period. After a few months decide what you want to do.

Oldy 08-04-2007 08:34 PM

thats what I'm doing right now
Sitting at home doing nothing.

I've been incomeless other then interests and rent roll for the past 1-2 years, since 2005

Would like to do something :)

I'm 25 years old btw.
---------------------

I also live in new york, so a few million isn't living large... Its just living :D
Would like to make some more money without too much headaches...

I think you need a degree to get hired anywhere these days.

Anybody taken this route or lifetime entrepeneurs?

minniesoporno 08-04-2007 08:46 PM

Well for me I dropped out high school, to presure the whole wanna be aporn star dream had some bumps and turns along the way, and Ia m taking online courses for my OSSD ( Ontario high school diploma) , and saving up for university for next September 2008, and pulling in the 9 to 5 at the same time and my porn career.

I gave up everything to get into porn and not really thinking of a back up plan or a what if plan but i learned fast and working on plan A and B and also plan C as well I learned over the short time of like 3 years I can work at home as a home travel agent.

You can always go back to porn at anytime, but the whole time to go back to school and coutinuing education gets a bit limited depending on what you want to pressure.

the 9 to 5 job I have is registering students and financial career people for coutinuing education for www.icb.org Insitute of canadian bankers so that might be another plan on the list.

A home travel agent? Isn't the travel agency biz almost dead because the average Joe can book his vacation online himself just as cheap without paying a fee?

Wow thats excellent minnie,
I hope you do get your college degree and get into that finaincial job, that would be awesome.

Good plan :)

alby_persignup 08-05-2007 12:38 AM

wow you made millions already :) anyway good luck on coming back to college!

Oldy 08-05-2007 12:55 AM

alby,
lol, if I tried to make a million now, I couldn't even etch out minninum wage :)

I read a post where CJ from purve and also wahts that crazy program she ran, something like swoit hahah yeah

Couldn't agree with her more.

Competition is intense in this business now, if you are edging out a profit margin , its INTENSEEEEEEE

Profit margin was 97% for me back in the "days" , these days I'd be lucky to roll with 20-30% total NET.

-------
I still remember the first time spamming yahoo chat with AI bots.
In 2002.

Good times :)
These days theres nothing much to spam, but I'm sure some of you guys can find some.

wtf? you remind me of another GFY'er starting with z and ending with k

i never understand people who make a few million and then are totally forced out of the biz and dont have any income anymore

if you were smart enough to make a few million, you surely should be able to still make a living online instead of going to be working an office job for 60k per year

sure thing, it was so easy to make a money few years ago that anyone could make it but..hm.. if you made a few millions then perhaps you should be still marter than an idiot

you may also invest a part of your net worth into domains, although that wont make you working either

but i agree sitting at home and doing nothing sucks ass, you should have some things to work on, rather than wasting time..

still if i were you, i wouldnt go to be working for city bank for 60k...

I am going back to university to become a midwife, taking a prequsite program at University of Toronto then Ryerson, and while I am in that program I Am taking online courses to complete my high school diploma with www.ilc.org there is no point in writting my GED because of what I want to have as a career in mu 30s and 40s needs more then just my GED, and for my PLAN C careers www.icb.org is looking promissing for thier PFP designation but it is a bit costly since that is what I am consultantly students of what to do for themselves, but when I got into debt issues I had no one to turn to for help.

and with the travel industry being a home based agent www.travelsourcenetwork.net it's not really dead a lot of older travellers are still insisting and speaking with a live person to book thier flights. the average joe who books thier flight online really can't ensure quality customer service when they do it themself. there is still some people out there who want the personal touch when booking thier dream vacations or business trips.

I'm going back at the end of August to Luthiery School. Luthiery is the art of building and repairing guitars and other stringed instruments. I've been playing guitar for about 9 years now and this is something I've wanted to do for about that long but back then I had just graduated with a degree in Video Production so I was focusing on getting that career going.

It just seems like the right time to do it now and most of it will be covered by student loans which is nice because I am in no way rich. The cool thing about it is that it's a five month course and you learn how to build an electric and acoustic guitar from scratch plus everything you need to know in order to repair them as well. Plus it doesn't hurt that one of the best schools in the world is right here in Phoenix too.

As someone who had a similar experience and found his way ...

Keep improving your business skills, try and look at things from a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE, you might have to UNlearn what you know. I don't think you have to innovate. Plenty enough money in accurately identifying where there is money to be made today.

School and careers is cool though.

crunchi 08-05-2007 05:27 AM

Oldy: What you mean with that percents 97% and you say it's now 20-30%,.. can you explain that a little bit more in details

about the competition: what are you afraid of, or what can competition do better than you, why is competition taking off your money,.. Is it because they get better SERP rankings than you, is because they submit or trade more galleries and traffic?

please answer to my questions, i'm making my steps to adult world and you would be great if you would help me out with answers

How can you get a job at citibank paying 60k without a college degree? I know people that can't even get 50-70k starting salary with a 4 yr degree. It depends on what you major in but starting salary for grads is lower than that.

minniesoporno 08-05-2007 08:27 AM

some places hire without any education background depends on thier policies and requirements. most places where you have to be bondable want you to at least have your high school diploma.

and depending if your applying to an outsourcing company or the company directly they have different rules of how they hire people and also if your coming from a temp agency.

I meant to say you need a college degree to work at citibank,
The starting salary is around $45k at citibank I believe.

People there do almost nothing lol :)

lol , Love what you did with masterofempire or something like that you wrote back in the days.
You also pionirered that 8tgp thing right? tgp2!

Would you say your program became a success through the amount of older industry people you met, or did you hit the pavement and make new business connections with the dating program?

Internet Guy 08-05-2007 08:53 AM

Did you stop working completely or just stop innovating?

This post disturbs me because I dropped out of college to pursue this full-time. I am making good money now, but getting lazy.. Just traveling around the world and fucking-off a lot.

Internet Guy 08-05-2007 08:56 AM

And why would you want a job where "people do almost nothing" now? Did you have to work very hard in the early days to make millions? I would think so..

You don't wanna work really hard anymore?

I went into another industry in th year 2005, but didn't make it there (investing) so I'm back, and out of sync with the game.

I was an affiliate in this business so my job was to continouslly find new sources of traffic.

I didn't run any sites, I just found traffic, either through search engines or other strange methods (myspace , random postin, etc...) This game is sort of like a catch and mouse, the best places for sources of traffic are the big places, like myspace/aol/yahoo/google/msn

And they'll cut you off at any minute once you start sending 30,000 msgs out :D
Same with search engine.

------------

If you are making good moeny on the internet, I would suggest you make every single dollar you can and SAVE most of it, because the opportunities will dry up sooner or later.

Internet changes within 2 years it seems, So every 6-8 months you'll need to find a new place to get traffic, or all your domains got blacklisted for blackhatting, you just got to keep re-starting.

Its not just with us, altavista use to be king of the internet, then it was yahoo, then it was google. Some companies just end up dissapearing, to re-become the next google is pretty hard.
You can give live.com billions of dollars they still won't get much market share.

If you ran an affiliate program,
It would be better, let the affiliates search for you :) I was an affiliate so ..
The income would be much more consistent instead of feast or famine.

Internet Guy 08-05-2007 09:15 AM

Thanks for the info :)

Peaches 08-05-2007 09:56 AM

I went back to school but for a specific reason. I don't know if I'll ever end up getting my degree. I am the only family member in 3 generations w/o a college degree. Several have MBAs, masters, double majors and 2 PhDs. I'm the idiot :(

If you're only 25, keep making the money and as others have suggested, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. You can go back to school if things slow up and/or you can run things spending less time working :)
