GFY Dying Slowly - Proof Inside!

I know some of you will say alexa is shit, but still..

Guess how many new webmasters came to this board in last 8 months? Should traffic rise or fall like hell?

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/7933/graphjl6.png

Most interesting part is that, number of pageviews per visitor is falling as well.

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/1355/graph1lm2.png

See?

Also, 3 months alexa avg. was 1,903

And I week alexa avg. is 2737

And yesterday's rank is 2949

Alexa GFY.com

Alexa GoFuckYourself.Com

Guess what? Something wrong is going on .. Is it load speed or increasing number of trolls, fake nicks and shit? :2 cents:

ps. don't tell me porn industry is overall dying or its summer slow down. Summer is not whole fucking 8 months long. :helpme

scottybuzz 08-06-2007 03:50 PM

IMO the primary reason for the decline was because of a certain member who joined in august last year

polish_aristocrat 08-06-2007 03:51 PM

i noticed it as well and even posted about it like 2 weeks ago

overall GFY feels a little slower as well, but it's not that easy to spot unless you spend a lot of time here... and even then it may be just a subjective feeling

i guess only the mods know the exact number of daily visits and new threads started daily but obviously they wont disclose it

Steve Awesome 08-06-2007 03:51 PM

Downward trend may also be related to firewalling off plug-ins that capture this data as more people adopt Vista.

Just a guess, but it might have to do with global warming...

Juicy D. Links 08-06-2007 04:09 PM

Wizzo 08-06-2007 04:12 PM

People have been reporting the "decline" of GFY for about 6 years now, right after we blew up into the #1 board spot...

Also, I think Vista has more effect on Alexa than most realize...:pimp

I think it's surfer traffic :2 cents:

Young 08-06-2007 04:23 PM

Alexa isn't really that accurate. Doesn't it only measure people who have the Alexa toolbar installed?

That's a good way of measuring surfers to a website...but not webmasters.

Hollywood Horwitz 08-06-2007 04:26 PM

no clue...maybe peeps are too busy to post anymore...

cool1 08-06-2007 04:34 PM

seems just as busy as usual around here

Yes, Alexa is not that accurate but its also not that inaccurate. We can still rely on it to some extent as it represents a sample of our visitors.

And by the way, Alexa toolbar is more common in webmaster than in surfers. So, its better way to gauge webmaster traffic than that of surfers'.

Summer slow down.

BoyAlley 08-06-2007 05:18 PM

I think it's obvious to anyone that visits this site on a regular basis EXACTLY what the problem is: the servers.

Timeouts, pages that take over a minute to load, white screens of death, all very common occurrences anymore that make surfing this site an absolutely miserable experience much of the time.

Although it's been brought up hundreds (thousands?) of times, it's obvious nothing's going to be done about it until/unless ad revenue for the site declines significantly. Assuming that is they manage to attribute that to the very poor site performance.

:2 cents:

Timeouts non stop for me. I then Visit some of the other adult boards. This is annoying.

This should affect every site though and they should all see a similar decrease in alexa stats but not overall rank.

Seems true to me. Number of pageviews per visitor seems to be falling as well, it shows everyone of us browse less pages now?

Phat Phil 08-06-2007 06:35 PM

GFY may be going through a recession, but if theres enough active members. (As I feel there is.) It will rise again, although I only joined today, I plan to be fairly active on GFY. I would have joined earlier but wasn't sure if you had to be 18 or not since there is content that normally would require you to be 18 to view on the forums. So I waited, and now I'm 18. :) Summing it up: Word of mouth is best advertising you can do.

youngest guy around I guess.

Are you webmaster? What websites do you run?

tranza 08-06-2007 07:08 PM

It still is the best board around for business....

dynastoned 08-06-2007 07:13 PM

well id say at least 30-40% of the time i try to check gfy i get a timeout. im sure that has something to do with it. but to be honest this is still the best board around so i just work for another hour or two and try back.

It's not just the speed of GFY. It's the content. GFY's always had more than its fair share bullshit, but it is getting worse. And the amount of times I've arrived on GFY only to see contest thread after contest thread. Quite often I'll just give up.

Xplicit 08-06-2007 11:00 PM

I read the board a lot less then I used to.

The reason I don't bother looking here is the amount of surfers, newbies, and sig whores. Its been a LONG time since ive learned anything of value from this board, not because it isnt here, but because its burried umong tons of bullshit.

I think GFY needs an approval process. Webmasters should have to show their URL, and apply from an emailaddress@<businessdomain>.com and mods approve them.

Tempest 08-06-2007 11:04 PM

In order to cut down on the load time, one of the things I've been doing for quite some time now is "prune" a days worth of posts... And that's been at around 5 pages for a long time.. weekends it will drop to 4.. sometimes it will hit 6. Basically it keeps it to only the posts that have been active in the last 24 hours or so.

webartist 08-06-2007 11:10 PM

Site is going very slow especially the search function is a nightmare .And explicit was correct...try to find useful stuff among stuff that has not connection to the industry. Threads like "i farted today" are usless and people post there so they can gather posts.I think gfy needs to improve their servers a little.
Maybe they didn't go down , maybe is just vista's fault but the facts mentioned earlier are very true

Speed is important. But the product has to be worth the wait time. It's not.

Also the figures are useless unless you compare them with other boards. I suspect all boards are suffering. So can you compare the same periods on Netpond, JBM, Greenguy and Medium Pimping.

Agreed, one of the reason why I visit the site less and less

Paul Markham 08-07-2007 01:17 AM

Do you think the rot started when Lensman got bought out and moved over to Playboy?

He was strong enough to control it.

you should be careful what you say about this board - something could happen to your account :)

Axeman 08-07-2007 09:18 AM

The fact that very little business related dialougue takes place here anymore is a factor for sure. If you want to get the days news, celeb gossip and is she hot posts then GFY is it. saves time I suppose coming to one site rather than checking out cnn and tmz to get the same info
