Why TGP Webmasters Suck Ass

Top 3 reasons

1) Just about every TGP looks exactly the same... Shitty.

2) Every TGP has the same shit, Galleries, WOW!

3) Lack of innovation, Is it really that hard to add ratings? How about comments? How about view types (Text/Thumb - C'mon folks, pretty lame!). How about lightbox slide shows? Recommendation engines, sort types (ratings, most popular, date, comments), Save, send to friend, tags, rss feeds, gallery previews, the list goes on...

Good ideas for sure. Slapping up a templated TGP site that looks like your neighbor is kinda like giving up.

I agree. I was horny as hell this morning so I visited the Hun. And after viewing gallery after gallery I just couldn't get it off but then a thought entered my head, "if only there was a lightbox slide slow I could send to my friend . . . "

Not everybody is a programmer...

Those features are not easy to add.

From 10 years experience in the Internet I can say that programmers seldom have the proper skills to build a truly great site... Oh, it may have lots of fancy code and cool little tricks but the bottom-up thinking more often than not turns out something a dog would piss on.

Not to be stereotypical or anything...

Your right, I mean facebook is a prime example of that... and look at Digg, what a POS... and Wordpress, pfff pure shit... Google.. crap..

Clearly in your (probably inflated) "10 years experience" you haven't worked with true developers, and to clarify, a programmer is very different than a developer.

Nope, 12+ years to be honest and it's actually depressing. Personally, I'd rather have been an aerobics instructor.

As for your examples - it's a BIG difference writing the code behind the site and the front-end. However, you are correct in your sarcasm, I should have clarified. A programmer can create a magnificent back-end (no adult-related pun intended) but it's the UI where things come up ugly.

So all these TGPs have pretty little toys, as you pointed out, and I agree that most are ridiculously unimaginative. But that was my point: The guys behind all these cookie-cutter TGPs are programmers so asking for innovation (esp. design-wise) is a stretch.

For TGPs to break out, someone with a prominent one will have to start the trend then all the minions will copy+paste .. that's how 95% of the Internet was built :) And you can come back in a year and make the exact same post and it will be just as true then...
