New Jersey vs Colorado. Pros n' cons?

a friend is planning to move to the states (possible in one of these 2) and is looking more info.

which do you like more and why?

Colorado is great if you like outdoor stuff: Hiking, snowboarding/skiing, mountain climbing. If you live in a place like Denver, you get the best of both worlds... big(ish) city life, with all that other stuff 30 min to an hour away. And the weather kicks ass... nice 75-80 degree summers, and doesnt get to cold in the winter in the city. Depends on where in CO you are though.

Dont know much about Jersey, never been there:P

It's City Vs. Country.

Colorado is as he said.

New Jersey can be close to either New York or Philadelphia. Colorado has Denver and Boulder but they are much like small suburban towns in Jersey. There's also some really boring sections of New Jersey but at least you have a choice of the city if you like.

It's also close to the Pocono mountains if he likes the outdoor life.

another plus of Colorado is Southpark with Cartman

yes he likes these activities. He doesnt want to live in metro city, but somewhere in suburbs. He must have fast internet access and reasonable cost of living.

Colorado, definitely.

Colorado all the way then. Lower cost of living I believe.

I grew up in NJ and lived there for 25 years.
Been through Colorado a few times and let me tell you - Colorado is way better. For outdoor stuff and natural beauty Colorado is tough to beat.

NJ is ok is you like being able to jump a train to Philly or NYC.
Just keep in mind you also must like traffic, malls and guidos.

So despite being a Jersey boy, my vote is Colorado.

I've been in CO for 3 years now.

I live in one of the city suburbs and can get to the center in 20 mins.

Pluses -

Awesome weather - approx 300 days of sun. You can have snow in the morning and by the afternoon it can be gone and you can be playing golf in a t-shirt. City and suburb winters are generally mild.

House prices are very reasonable, you can get a 5000sq ft house for $300k and up depending on area.

Scenery is beautiful, lots of outdoors stuff to keep those types busy. Ski-ing, rafting, hiking, biking etc

Theres a Casino town in the mountains which is pretty size-able or Vegas is a 1 hour flight away.

Pace of life is nice and slow but not to the detriment of customer service.

Cost of living in general is low...gas, eating out etc.

People are laid back and very pleasant, restaurant service staff in particular.

Probably the worse thing about CO is the job market....its not bad, just static.

Denver is a young city, lots of young professionals. Denver also got voted the best place to be single in 2006.

If you're married with a family the suburbs are very oriented towards providing things for you to get out and do.

Good school system....Cherry Creek in particular.

Downsides -

Nightlife.......NJ being close to NYC you will get access to better nightlife.

if your friend does not want a metro area, no reason to go to jersey to pay a shitload in property taxes, state taxes, car insurance and to be in the smelliest state in the country. I live in NY and work in NJ....JERSEY STINKS. I can not drive with top down and if i use A/C i have to use the circulation feature most days. Jersey has a lot to offer from May to Sept.

I dont know much about CO, but it sounds nice from the posts. I had no idea it had such nice weather. I thought it would mostly be cold lol. Very cool to hear and im TEMPTED MYSELF

go to COLORADO

Brother Bilo 08-21-2007 10:15 AM

Colorado is really nice, but New Jersey has been home to the murder capital of the US a few times now.

Although that's a tough one to pass up, I would suggest Colorado.

Another pro about Colorado if you like beer. Many microbreweries. Check out http://www.brewpubtours.com
