I think his story really is proof that mental illness is a real thing and not just people in a funk or in need of a change as some people may think. This guy has money, a good career, he bangs the hottest chicks in Hollywood and he still tried to kill himself. It's sad.

I know exactly what you mean. The ones that really make me wonder are the ones that come from nothing and had tough lives until they made it (you hear about this with pro athletes a lot) then once they have the money they choose to still hang with the same people and do the same things they did before. Mike Vick is a prime example. The guy just threw away 130 million in salary from the NFL and many more millions from endorsements.

Nobody convinced me it wasn't a real thing but I have been told that depression is a "state of mind" and "a choice" by a lot of different people. Scientologists for one think that there is no such thing as depression and that anyone with the right diet and exercise can overcome any form of depression. I know people that suffer from depression and sometimes they have some real bad times. My mom suffers from depression and she had been told by several different doctors to "just get over it" before she found a therapist that actually listened to her and helped her. The point of my post is that for those that think depression isn't a real thing this case would maybe make you believe otherwise. It appears that he has everything in the world to live for and yet he tried to kill himself.

But I wonder, What does me living in Portland have to do with any of it?

I promise you you are reading too much into this. I am simply pointing out two facts.

Fact 1. There are some people in this world that don't believe that depression is an actual illness. I am not one of them, but there are others that do think that way I was just giving some examples.

Fact 2. This guy is a shining example of why it is in an illness. He appears to have everything most people could ever want, but still tries to kill himself.

I'm not saying I don't think it's an illness. I'm not saying that money and hot chicks makes you happy. I'm simply saying that he is a good example that it IS an illness.

Did you even read my post? The point of it is that he has just about everything most people could want and he still wasn't happy. I'm not making a statement that money buys you happiness. I'm saying that this is real evidence that depression is an illness.
