Flash Video Encoder

1)
What are people using to convert wmv files etc into .swf files to embed into pages...... Been poking around... way too many choices via a google search LOL

2)
Is there anything that will convert/embed user uploaded files to be included on their own pages??? Or is this a custom code situation ala YouTube etc

(Needs are minimal for #2)

Happy Labor Day to those in the U.S.

used adobe's flash encoder if you want a solution on your desktop.

otherwise use ffmpeg for server side.

RubberDicky 09-03-2007 09:03 AM

try sorenson squeeze

Jim_Gunn 09-03-2007 09:15 AM

I prefer Sorenson Squeeze with the ON2 VP6 codec except for the lack watermark adding ability with Squeeze. Also there is Adobe Flash Encoder, or FFMPEG on the server.

cool, i'll check them out
thanks

I use Flash Video Studio 1.5

i use adobe flash video encoder

gornyhuy 09-03-2007 11:58 AM

sorenson squeeze and On2 Flix Pro are the two best IMHO, I recently did a head to head and decided I like Flix best, so I'm using that. It has good batch capabilities, nice advanced options, and produces good quality output. :2cents

for uploads/server side there is a "standard" approach using open source stuff ... what is it... fvtools2 I think and ffmpeg mainly.

pornpf69 09-03-2007 12:19 PM

I use RIVA to do that kind of conversion

Humpy Leftnut 09-03-2007 12:41 PM

How does FFmpeg compare with the professional products? As to video quality, and options?

also just to let ya all know, adobe created flash so its best to use their own tools as its made by the company who knows the product inside and out ;)

Humpy Leftnut 09-03-2007 01:08 PM

Adobe's can't be run server side, you need someone sitting at a computer doing it

Why 09-03-2007 01:45 PM

i think maybe the adobe encoder is not multi threaded? which means it cant max out a multicore? i havnt used it in a while, maybe i am wrong. but i know many encoders have this issue.

for server side, i guess speed/load is more of an issue then anything, using the same codec and settings should result in identical output with any solution.

I checked out the free Flash Media Encoder but as far as I can tell one can't encode existing files, like say an edited AVI file. You have to capture a live source like from a mini-DV camera or webcam.
