Limit downloads for members?

How do other programs feel about imposing download limitations in the member's areas? ie, XXMB per day, and/or XX files per day and/or XX download time per day?

Here's the reason I ask...

Let's talk about it.

Or possibly, have a monitor setup, with a download peak limit, that auto-freezes an account at a certain level, and isn't released until further review.

Most password protection software has this feature. You could perhaps limit the trial members until they convert to full members then give them unlimited access. Or have a trial area that open up to a full members area on conversion to full membership

One of the things you can do is set up dummy links, invisible to humans but easily gobbled up by bots. When a user hits those links, slow them down. Basically, only bots will hit it, and you can work based on that.

You will be able to spot the botters and site rippers pretty much directly.
