The Names.

So damn hard to watch this.
Just when i thought i was desenstized by the media and all the 9-11 stuff, I feel like im gunna loose it watching the names of the victums being read off right now. Seeing this and hearing this is much more powerful than I thought it would be.

Such a sad day.

nocostporn 09-11-2002 06:12 AM

Whats with the cello? I thought this was a day to remember and uplift, not put everybody in a slummed mood...Get Ray Charles out on the piano or something

Well said, I couldn't agree more... I think I'm going out :(

12clicks 09-11-2002 06:13 AM

Bone, this will be a very tough day.
wait until they start talking about the firemen.:(

boneprone 09-11-2002 06:16 AM

going out?
Its 6:00 am here and I havent slept yet.
Time for bed for me.

This is like a long night in Vegas for me. Im emotionally drained.
Gunna kiss the wife good night, say a prayer and get some sleep.

I cant believe they are only on the "C's" right now.
Just unreal.

Going to the mall or something, I don't think I can site here and watch it all. Yep, their on the C's.

boneprone 09-11-2002 06:20 AM

yeah ive been up all night hearing the stories of the firemen, and watching old and unseen footage.

Its kept me up all night. I keep saying I cant go to sleep like this.
Its pretty fucking powerful. I had no idea id react like this.

Like I said, the media had done a pretty good job desenstizing me to 9-11 over the year as they have with many people.

But today the reality has set back in. To see the masses of people who lost thier loved ones all gathered at ground zero is about the most powerful emotional thing ive encountered next to walking the Vietnam Memorial.

Things never get to me. Im pretty fucking emotional right now

steffie 09-11-2002 06:28 AM

This is very sad indeed, I just wished they would have given that much sympathy to all those people who died in

Vietnam
Korea
World War 2
Bosnia
I could go on and on.

While it is sad that we have lost many people in a terrorist attack one year ago, lets not forget all those innocent children and women who were raped, murdered and killed in the above wars. Civilians who had nothing to do with politics and to this day being tortured, raped and killed.

China

now thats sad!

boneprone 09-11-2002 06:33 AM

China?

sexyavs 09-11-2002 06:38 AM

Seems the only coverage I can watch now is the stuff PBS puts out on 9-11.. they run some awesome documentary's..

I dont like how dateline and them seem to run the same story over and over and over and over .... etc..

Some of the network coverage is very cheezy and in bad taste.

Chris

steffie 09-11-2002 06:40 AM

Yup

If women speak up in China for equal rights they are most likely to be put to jail. And I doubt they are having a good time in there.

Actually there was an article about that the other day in the German Newspaper.

Sorry that youre bummed out about the terrorist attack, so am I. However I lost family in WW2 and Vietnam and I remember in 73-74 what welcome they had in America.

My best friend couldn't find a job because ...............

Well I rather not get into that now....

Ted 09-11-2002 06:40 AM

China sucks bad, they just have good spin control over the media.

I agree, no need for a lot of it, but I've seen a few things that are touching.

boneprone 09-11-2002 06:49 AM

If the women in China dont like it they should just leave. Take the next boat out. Hell, my Grandma did. And guess what, it was right around WWII.

WWII?
Didnt we just have a Memorial Day and Vetrans Day for them?

Dont think they have gone ignored. Today is Sept 11. Not April 1st.

You have to be joking.

steffie 09-11-2002 06:50 AM

It is sad!

Where exactly did the "Red Cross" say my donations went? Because I just watched something about donating money to the children of the victims!

I remember donating $ 500.00 last September and we are not rich over here.

chodadog 09-11-2002 07:06 AM

I watched a documentary tonight. Two brothers approached a firehouse last year and asked one of the guys if they could do a documentary about a boy becoming a man; a rookie firefighter on his 9 months of probation.

Anways, he'd been working there for over 2 months, and there hadn't been anything major. Just small car fires, little things like that. His first big fire, September 11.

One of the brothers doing the documentary went out on a routine gas leak call that happened to be down the road from the WTC. Ever see the footage of the first plane hitting, and the firefighters are around the guy with the camera? Well, that was this guy. So, straight away, these guys hop in their truck and head on over. First guys to arrive on the scene and get into tower 1.

While they were in there, the second plane hit the second tower. And every now and then, you'd hear these huge crashing sounds. From the sound of 'em.. you'd assume it was debris, but it was the people jumping out from the floors above.

Anyways, tower two came down while the one brother was recording in the first tower. Straight away, the other brother started to think about his brother, wondering if he was dead or not. So he gets on the back of a pickup with the rookie and they head off down to the WTC.

That first crew managed to get all of their guys out. I can't even begin to explain how saddening it was to see them talk about how they told other firefighters to get out, 'cause they got the call, and other guys just kept on going up.

So the second tower came down..

By now, the brother that had just gone towards the WTC thought his brother was dead. Hours later, they all end up back at the firehouse, and the brothers end up seeing eachother..

They stood there, looking fairly calm..
greeted eachother..

And as they stood next to eachother, the younger brother just burst into tears and hugged his older brother, and tehy both started to cry.

And a firefighter came up to one of them and said:

"Yesterday, you only had 1 brother. Today, you have 15"

It was really moving.. The friendship and the courage was uplifting, in spite of what was going on around them, but i couldn't help but she a tear more than a few times through the documentary.

Hi Boneprone,

Couldn't agree with you more about the power of hearing those names and seeing things all over again even with the media's spin on things.

The impact of what happened has never left me I think, moslty because I do not watch much TV and have had the inundation of ratings hungry stations.

I have watched the names scroll by on the screen a few times and that got me good, but hearing the names is harder or watching interviews of those that were there, or lost their loved ones. And listening to the emergency workers talk about the ones they could hear on the radio, or any of their other experiences with what happend, still makes me shudder.....

Thinking back I remember when Enrique Iglesias song hero came out and someone did a remix with some of the actual newscast and live coverage of the tragedy.

Its here if anyone wants to listen to it.

http://fatt.com/hero.mp3

I know the song is overplayed etc.. but this version is actually quite good.
