You need to have a tripod and put the camera to the manual mode and shoot at least with sutter speed not less than 5 seconds

im in bangkok and tried to get a few shots last night too, but failed :( a tripod would have been handy, and most of the lightning was hidden by cloud :P

Yeah, you definitely need a tripod, and patience. I took over 100 pictures and this was the only bolt that I caught in front of the clouds.....

I very rarely see a bolt of lightning, it's almost always obscured by cloud... and I'm talking EVERY time, not just when I have a camera in my hand. :(
