Heading to SAN DIEGO Tomorrow. What are some good Beaches? Good area to stay?

Heading to SanDiego tomorrow. Where's a good area to stay? Downtown Area ok??

Also whats some cool places to check out? Its been around 7 years since ive been down there.

I remember Mission Beach was the place to check out back then. Is that a good beach? Any others I should see?

Also whats cool around town?

boneprone 09-10-2007 11:22 PM

I was thinking of booking here. Its pretty central. And I like Marriot's when we travel casual and domestic..

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...iego-downtown/

Good area?

Seems central to everything. But not sure what everything is.

What the fuck is a gaslamp district? Do I need to go see it?

boneprone 09-10-2007 11:23 PM

Was also looking at this up in Coronado area of SD..

But not sure if thats a good place to camp out or not either.

Are you going with the family or is it you and the boys? If its the family then I'd stay on Coronado as the beach is mellow and it won't have all the congestion of the Gaslamp. If you want to save a little on the hotel and want to be close to the zoo, sea world, shopping and downtown then you could always stay in Mission Valley if you don't have to be on the beach.

Well if you want to chill with the wife and kid at the beach then go to La Jolla shores, Coronado or Del Mar, but if you want to see the bitches then check out Mission and Pacific beach.

Yes, I used to live right by there. Its right off the 5 freeway, you can be downtown in ten min or to La Jolla shores beach in five min. Lots of great shopping around there for your wife and tons of great places to eat.

Hmmm.

So from the looks of it, there is no real need or advantage to stay downtown??

I was looking to book there, but it appears there are better advantages staying elsewhere.

Only advantages to staying downtown are if you want to see a padres game or if you were going with the boys and looking for nightlife. Being close to La Jolla will give you easy access to a great family beach, excellent shopping and awesome restaurants without all the congestion and rif raf of downtown.

Ok.. LAJolla it is..

Ok, so I can go to the nive beaches, but how far is the beach with the bitches from this place?

Mission or Pacfic that is.

Is it far?

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 09-10-2007 11:48 PM

Head up 101 North about 25 miles to Encinitas - some great beaches there. More of a local surfer crowd, and less touristy...

Ten minutes, they are just south of La Jolla beach. They are fine on weekdays, but can get a little crazy and crowded on the weekends, not really a place I'd bring a one year old.

Dare69 09-10-2007 11:51 PM

Have a good fun dude!

Lots of good shopping and restaurants and you'll be about ten min from downtown and the beaches. I think your wife would enjoy the La Jolla area more though as its closer to the beach and the shopping and restaurants are a little nicer, but Mission Valley will have much more hotel options.

Great location, just up the hill from the beach and downtown La Jolla. Even better if you like golf as you'll probably have a golf course view from your room. If you stay there, go check out Birch Aquarium which is right around the corner.

Sami 09-11-2007 12:32 AM

That Marriot hotel downtown is a nice hotel.

Dine in the mission valley area for old school steak houses, benny hannas etc.. and la jolla for more of the expensive classy resturants.

Little Itally (I used to live here) if your into anything Italian.. food.. wine etc...

Sight seeing.. check out La Jolla and anything on the coast side north of la jolla.

Beaches... Pacific Beach is good.. La jolla beach is good.

hope that helps

No worries, Del Mar Race Track is probably what you're talking about and season ended just last weekend. Someone already mentioned it but since it looks like you're staying in La Jolla, take a quick trip to Little Italy, go to Mona Lisa for dinner it's the best Italian food outside of Italy.

Gaslamp only if you are going clubbing or to catch a Padres Game, other than that not much to do. Have fun I miss San Diego :(

boneprone 09-11-2007 10:25 AM

Im here now and I love it. Its been hot all day.

Even the evenings are great..

Im in La Jolla, pronunced "La Hoya" (I found out the hard way, very embarassing. Im a fucking dumbass. My wife wont stop laughing. I was arguing with a Mexican Bellhop in Anahiem where " Lah-Jahlah" was.)

I love it here. La Jolla is great. Perfect..

Staying here for a few more days. Tomorrow night going to be hanging in the Gas Lamp district in downtown SD and during the day Seaworld.

Love it here.

Oh lord, I went with a friend of mine to Resurrection (I think that's the name) Blvd and he decided it would be a great place to pick up "rustic" items for 20 or so cabins he rents out. We ended up with such a haul he paid a fortune to ship them back :thumbsup He loves to bargain with them and speak Spanish. I was just trying to eat what seemed like an 8 pound burrito.

And I swear, like in the airports, I must look the least menacing crossing the TJ border. Crossed it about 4 times in the past year and twice they didn't even ask for ID - the other two times they barely looked at it.
