Glass desk vs. wooden desk?

I want to get myself a new (larger) desk and don't know what to buy... I have a wooden one right now, but I'm thinking about trying something else....

What's your opinion, is it comfy working at a glass table? Or does it get all smudgy and shit?

BAKO 09-11-2007 04:00 PM

I like glass, I bought mine about 5 years ago and its still in good condition

i have glass coffee tables and end tables in my living room, they look great, but if you want to keep them clean, you gotta wipe them down like once a day, it is a pain in the ass.

plus i can't find a glass desk with droors, and i like droors on my desk. i need somewhere to keep my drugs.

I have two nice flat glass/metal desks from OfficeMax that hold all five of my computers.

BradM 09-11-2007 04:06 PM

I used glass/metal for awhile but got sick of cleaning it every 20 minutes.

I am neurotic about dirty glass so it was a bad choice.

Glass for sure, much easier to clean

Zuzana Designs 09-12-2007 05:02 AM

if your trying to make your room look bigger go glass.. it is eaier to clean, but you have to clean it more. I got a really nice desk at staples for like 200 bucks..

BlueDesignStudios 09-12-2007 05:06 AM

I like glass personally...

cranki 09-12-2007 05:25 AM

I guess this one would suit me well (could get it as 5,6ft or 6,9ft version), what do you think?

Glass in nice but expect major hassle when you move

Steve Awesome 09-12-2007 07:01 AM

Go to IKEA and sit in all of the desks until you're happy.

I've always liked wood much better..

GrouchyAdmin 09-12-2007 07:37 PM

Glass is much easier to notice smudges, and impossible to use with optical mice.

Plus, you get to see the wires, everywhere. Yuck.

Well let's think about the most important thing about having a desk. Can you really confidently have sex on a glass desk? I know I'd be paranoid it'd give way and I'd end up with blood all over the carpet. So I'd stick with wood but that's just my humble opinion :)

DaddyHalbucks 09-12-2007 10:04 PM

Glass is cold and hard. I prefer the wood.

Velcro tape cleans wires up nicely. You can run the wires along the legs and you won't even see them.
