I hate my fucking laptop

it's a Vaio, nothing to cream about. It's just slow as fuck to me, can anyone recommend a solid Laptop.

ProjectNaked 09-14-2007 09:37 PM

go to bestbuy and check them out - best way to get what you need. :thumbsup

After Shock Media 09-14-2007 09:39 PM

Dells seem to make pretty damn solid and tough machines.
As for speed well watch for what preloads etc. Hell when you buy it strip it down to a blank drive and do a fresh install.

My main issue with laptops is getting used to the different sized keyboard and having no number pad which drives me sort of bat shit.

Extreme John 09-14-2007 09:41 PM

yeah Laptop keyboards suck all around, I could never use one ll day.

Im almost thinking of something custom, instead of a Best Buy gimmick, a few guys at the office have Dell's and they are always having issues so im not sure about Dell.

D 09-14-2007 09:41 PM

I avoid Sony products as a rule.

I'm buying an HP myself right now.

If cost wasn't an object, I'd get a Lenovo ThinkPad. Those things are well built.

Whatever you do, don't settle for under 2gigs of memory, imho.... aside from that, do what you think is best suited for your budget.

Extreme John 09-14-2007 09:46 PM

I def agree with the 2g minimum this shit has 1g and it's a fucking nightmare, than again I have zero patience.

I don't buy things from companies I've had problems with in the past.

Sony has issues, imho, and I choose to not support them when at all possible.

sublimed 09-14-2007 09:59 PM

I've never had any issues with my sony desktops and laptops. to each his own.

Extreme John 09-14-2007 10:07 PM

I like the Viao brand I have two of them, I just think working on my desktops during the the day and jumping on the laptop it feels sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much slower

Kill all the pre installed crap. Do a fresh install of drivers and OS. Then get a lappy with a beefed up processor and lots of ram. You will not notice much if any difference.

My desktops are just for encoding and major graphical stuff.

than my little sister's 700 dollar
HP notebook :Oh crap

Sly 09-14-2007 10:40 PM

I just started using my laptop about six weeks ago, have had it for a couple years now. It was slow as shit and driving me crazy. Lo and behold, 512 MB of RAM. I upgraded to 2 GB and life is much better.

Would love to see a dual processor with 4 GB, though. That has to be hot.

Do this before you buy a new one. Guaranteed it will speed it up.

Dell makes average products funny to see people buy into all the dell marketing

LOL

I must have gotten a bad one. Fuck, I had keys snap off the keyboard, the screen kept coming loose to the point where it would not stay, the nipple stopped working (there is nothing worse than a fucking nipple that is broke!) and I had to replace the damn power supplies about every 90 days because the cords fucked up.

I replaced that piece of shit a few months ago with an Acer from Best Bi. The Acer needs more RAM which I will add later, other than that, no problems out of it except Vista itself, which I cannot blame Acer for.

seeric 09-15-2007 01:07 AM

go toshiba

dont look back.

i have 3 of them now. all insanely powerful like a desktop and never gives me issues. ever. dump the shit that comes on it, give it a lobotomy and install xp pro. never look back.

toshiba kicks ass for me since 1999.

werd.

Honestly I know I have not fell for any marketing. I like their pricing but I have also bought stuff from egghead and even tiger direct.

I really think everyones computer experiences will vary by user. Some will get a piece of crap lemon and others will get something built like a mack truck from the same company, same brand, etc.
We all know for the most part many of the inside shit is all the same anyways.

Sony makes the best laptops.

Violetta 09-15-2007 04:54 AM

mine has a hardware error on the graphicscard. Shuts off whenever it feels like it! :(

yeah right...

it's like whent I'd say "Sony makes best SLR cameras", and they started making them this year... I'd always buy rather Nikon or Canon instead of Sony, as Sony dosen't know a shit how to make a good SLR camera...

So, if you need a good laptop take it from the manufacturer that that is making them for years, since it has the greatest experience... I personally have HP/Compaq. I have it for about 2 years now and it works flawlessly. I know that Dells are good and have heard good things about Thoshiba.

HP make computers, not overpriced designer crap. Anyone with their head on straight would choose HP over Sony, if the purpose of the laptop they buy is any other than to sport a slick design.

haha, overpriced designer crap. Yes I like nice looking things.. definitely got me there. Sony uses great hardware in their computers, never had anything fail on me. Now for HP/Dell/Gateway I have been around a lot and always see issues with them. Hard Drive failure, cdrom, fan, etc etc. So all you can say is Sony likes to make appealing looking products? WTF!! that's what most people like, not some old grump stuck in his ways because he thinks the outside looks to nice so it must suck inside? is that your thinking? who's head is on straight?

Aristo93 09-15-2007 10:20 AM

I have a Sony VAIO SZ series for a long time now....no problem at all. Maybe you got a bad one......these things happens quite often.

you have to know what you are buying. If you bought a pc with a celeron or duron processor less than 2gb of ram, a fast hard drive (RPM), etc then you probably aren't happy. I don't go for the best looking or the lightest, I compare specs until I find the best deal with the most in it for the money.. has worked great so far.

HP is world leader in terms of sales of consumer PC's. Dell is second. They have been making and selling consumer PC's for decades. I don't think they got where they are by making faulty products. As for Sony making stuff look good, take a look at Apple's computer products and how widely spread they are and you'll realize that only a few people will pay extra for design.

sublimed 09-15-2007 10:30 AM

let's see this sales of consumer PC's stats, sounds interesting. Sony has been making electronics just as long I would think. They have the money for R&D. A PC is not a MAC, duh.
