I have one -- I did a lot of research on it...
Takes good pics -- it's fast -- easy -- I found no negative reviews of the camera anywhere on the net... early versions of the camera had some edge blur and color processing problems -- but these cameras were never sold to the public... The case is aluminum / stainless steel -- sturdy... It will shoot several 15 second quicktime movies too -- with sound ;) It comes w/ a video cable -- so you can plug it in to your TV instead of using the LCD... comes w/ a charger too -- i think it takes about an hour to charge the little battery... Do some research -- it does color processing a lot better than most cameras plus the processor in the camera is very quick... it does some minor processing like white balance, and other shit -- but you can't even notice... I was a little worried that the images would look too processed (I'm anal about that) -- but they look fine... 1 second startup time... whip it out of your pocket -- turn it on 1 second later you are shooting... Best of all it's a beautiful little camera and you can bring it everywhere in your back pocket. Downloading pics to your PC is easy as shit -- simply plug in your camera to the USB connector -- go to your HD and your pics are on E: -- I can FTP files to my server directly off the camera... taking good pics IMHO is as simple as adjusting the exposure... my only complaint is there is no way to set a default setting for the flash. I hate to use a flash -- so every time I turn on the camera I have to turn off the flash -- but you can change the flash setting w/ a press of a button so it's not really a big deal... I recommend it... you could go with the Elph but it's sligtly more bulky and doesn't have the cool 3x periscope zoom lens that the Dimage X has... The Dimage X was $400+ over the summer -- now you can find it around $250 online! Get the SD (secure digital) memory for the camera -- which is slightly faster. |
As for skin tones -- take a look yourself -- these were shot at night -- 640x480 in fine mode (one step below the highest quality TIFF mode)
This was with no flash... and I have compressed this pic... http://www.theflyinc.com/internext/PICT0045.jpg This was shot with flash... not compressed http://www.theflyinc.com/internext/PICT0043.JPG |
