guess Ill repost it.

is Keith Jardine gonna spoil the comeback? Also excited about the Forest Griffin fight.

Digipimp 09-22-2007 12:03 PM

you mean the forrest griffin funeral

kane 09-22-2007 12:03 PM

I think Chuck will pull it off. Both guys like to throw so I see someone getting knocked out. I think Chuck didn't take Rampage seriously and got a dose of reality. He will be hungry and ready to prove something.

Yeah it looks like it might be the Farewell tour. All though I would like to see him win.... hmmm

MetaMan 09-22-2007 12:07 PM

UFC sucks, it is horrid, it is nothing like when it first came out.

go watch some of the early UFC tournaments and watch it now. just horrid.

well obviously anyone can win a fight but i dont think alot of the ufc fans that are unfamiliar with shogun realize just how good he really is

Digipimp 09-22-2007 12:09 PM

i am watching cage rage 23 right now though, its happening live in the UK right now

Extreme John 09-22-2007 12:09 PM

Ive been watching since UFC 1 and I couldnt agree any less. The fight cards are way more evenly matched making for better fights and bigger names, I can deal without the Headbuts and a poke in the eye here and there.

Very true, but I heard the same crap about Cro Cop, until he got stomped 2x in a row. Cage is a different place, has Shogun fought in a cage or just the ring.

Chuck didnt' take Page seriously?

Really? You mean after Chuck getting his ass beat by Rampage the first time wasn't enough?

Pulease.

you heard the ufc hype machine on that one from a don king wannabe. cro cop is a drone and lacks motivation. he didnt want to fight in the ufc, but he wanted to cash in and get what he thought would be easy fights. hendo is the real deal, rampage is in the ufc because he wanted top 3 money in pride but wasnt a top 3 fighter. shogun is the real deal, he's chute box and goes hard non stop with lots of pressure and tons of talent. he's easily the best pound for pound fighter that the ufc has, unless they sign fedor.

Did you say the cards were more evenly matched?!

John, you are wrong.

They were so one sided, it wasn't funny. If you didn't know how to grappple, 9 out 10 it was done.

Alot of good books out there you should read to get caught up on MMA.

Martin3 09-22-2007 12:15 PM

Forest and Shogun will probably be the fight of the night. Shogun will win, but as long as Forest doesn't get to careless like he did against Jardine it should be a great fight.

Yep, that's why it's so interesting to watch. It's just impossible to tell right now how somebody like Shogun will perform in the cage.

No I said the fight cards ARE more evenly matched, back in the day they were not evenly matched.

Was it basically a free-for-all back then? No weight classes, few limits on how you can pummel your opponent, etc?

i have to tell you the cage wont even matter in this fight tonight. watch the thai clinch and knees and then a vicious ground game with tons of pressure from shogun.

Fucksakes 09-22-2007 12:19 PM

I'm excited, can't wait.

Yeah I think you're right. From the footage I've seen Shogun is an all around fighter so it shouldn't matter much.

Extreme John 09-22-2007 12:22 PM

I think the only thing Forest has going for him is if he keeps moving, if not like Digi said the Thai clinch will kill him.

anything is possible in a fight though. forrest could land a shot and win it. i cant see him ever submitting shogun though or handling him in the clinch or ground. but a puncher always has a chance to land a shot and win a fight.

Extreme John 09-22-2007 12:27 PM

Look at the spread on this fight...

MAURICIO RUA -360
FORREST GRIFFIN +280

Griffin win's it's a solid payout thats for sure.

I don't think he took him as seriously as he should have. Chuck has been on a roll and Page had lost some fights in Pride before coming to the UFC. I think Chuck felt like he was on the rise and Rampage was on the decline. But, as we saw, with those little 4oz gloves, you get caught once and it is over.

xNetworx 09-22-2007 12:59 PM

If Griffin can win, it will make his career. Very unlikely tho :(

I see a lot of +300's on Keith Jardine, so if you were going to go with an underdog that might be the way to go. I would venture to say that when all of the Chuck Liddell fan's start flooding the books with money you might be able to get as high as +350 on Jardine right before the fight. I'm not saying I think Jardine wins this, but he has much more of a puncher's chance than Griffin does against Shogun. Chuck does look to be in good shape and focused, but he can be KO'd, and with the kind of lifestyle he lives you never know when he is going to get old in a hurry...

smoke 09-22-2007 01:08 PM

Jardine is tailor made for Lidell. He stands straight up when punching and wades in head first. It's pretty obvious that this is a tune up fight for Chuck to get back on track.

Extreme John 09-22-2007 01:15 PM

I hope Chuck doesnt feel the same way that you do or Chuck can end up getting hitm and just as hard if not harder than Rampage hit him.

I think he took him seriously. The problem is that Chuck is a counter puncher and Rampage forced Chuck to come forward. Chuck wanted that fight bad thus the mental mistake. Anytime you come forward directly in front of your opponent throwing wide you'll be an open target. Which is the thing that really irritates me about MMA. These guys have terrible footwork. Most will try to make an argument that you have to defend the take down but it has nothing to do with it. Great boxers circle their opponents and use angles to pick them apart, for some reason MMA's always stand right in front of each other.

There really aren't too many tune up fights in the UFC anymore. Houston Alexander was supposed to be a tune up for Jardine before a title shot, and I'm still not sure Jardine is awake from that brutal KO...

Which only makes my point. Jardine is susceptible to getting hit because he stands straight up and when he moves forward its always head first. That's a punchers dream opponent.

I didn't disagree with you, I'm just saying that nothing is black and white in the UFC anymore. Both guys are coming off pretty brutal KO's, and at 38 (I believe that is his age) Chuck doesn't exactly take care of himself like a Randy Couture. A brutal KO can age you in a hurry...

With some of the odd's tonight I had to go with the Underdogs accross the board.

SomeCreep 09-22-2007 05:13 PM

Not sure if Liddel will win this one. It seems like his heart isnt into UFC fighting, like it used to be. All the expensive cars and fast women went to his head. If he trained hard for this fight and I mean really hard, then he should have a shot.

Fucking beautiful explanation!!!

In MMA, we train to "Cut the ring off". Meaning, we go left to right, never forward or back against a counter puncher, or a good wrestler. Page was doing that perfectly, and when Chuck came in, Page just a'la Chuck and counterpunched.

As for the terrible footwork. In MMA, we have to watch not only for kicks, but for the wrestling shot, or takedown. Which generally means you will see MMA fighters pretty much flat on their feet most of the time.

My picks:

Liddel
Rua
Sanchez

But I'm rootin for Griffin!

High Plains Drifter 09-22-2007 05:43 PM

Zuffa would not be happy to see Rage Cash using the images of Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin to promote their program. Stolen content.

I want Griffen to win but he has a very tough fight.
Fitch is a madman and should kill Sanchez. :2 cents:
