Should I charge more then $10 per banner?
 

Ive been told that my skills have been increasing and I should really start charging more then $10 per banner. Do you think so? Ive always like the 10 per banner because it opened the door to many more customers for me.

Would $15 be too much of a raise? How about 12?

10... 15? It's 5 bucks... i don't imagine that's enough to deter anyone. You could always offer a bulk rate

In all honesty, yes you should be charging more. Not everyone can create banners that a) look good... b) catch the viewers eye... and c) make them wanna click.

I mean ... I don't know much about your work but it generally seems quite good ... $10 ... I mean ... seriously, over here, McDonalds pay more per hour and I think you should be charging based on the fact that you're a creative skilled person. You're charging for your time... but you should charge for your skill too ... :)

Uhm no. Those arent designs or anything. Its some letters on a ready to go pic. Im far from a designer and i can make those in 5 mins.

You could charge more if you would design the full banner (assuming you can) but these i wouldnt pay 10 bucks for even.

I would go two rates:)
10 bucks for statics, 15 for animated.

Also price by size or you will end up doing half page ad's for 10 bucks.
Speaking of which expand your horizons a little and move into 1/2 page ad's:)

Heres what I started to consider when I sold banners or any design really.

Screw trying to make the price sound good for the client. You will only hurt yourself in the end.. Dont get me wrong, be fair. but dont put yourself out to satisfy the demand.

Theres a few things to consider. Skill and who can do this these days. Your hardware. What computer are you running? Did you just buy it? Did you buy it for your work? Then your software. Did you buy your Photoshop? I know I did and for anyone that has... Its fucking A expensive. I use fireworks for animated banners... theres another program.. (it came with my MX suite) also expensive... Time... how much time does it take you? Franck cannot make that banner in 5 minutes... half hour maybe...

Lets not get into flash and movie trailers...




The cost of good honest webmastering is rising... dont short yourself... and keep it real... in the end if you do both... you will have happy return clientele ...

A client buying ad space a few months ago also wanted new creatives made for his site. I charged him $75 for:

1 static standard-sized banner
1 animated over-sized banner
1 animated button


And that's my "with ad package" rate. If he was buying just the graphics it would have been $100 bucks. Some of those banners are made of blendings of 2, 3 sometimes 4 different other images or photos.

And as far as I've ever known of it, most local web design houses charge $65/hr and up for graphics creation.


However, if you can bang out a decent banner in 10 minutes, then I suppose selling them for ten bucks apiece isn't raping yourself. I may be stuck in 5-year-ago mode, but I won't work for peanuts. Same with gallery designs, some guys sell them for next to nothing. I'll do 6 for $150, and that's as low as it gets with me.

I'm not a fulltime designer but I've done and sold my share of work over the years.

There are a few designers on here doing great banners and charge less than you. I'm not sure what your bulk rate is, but they're asking $599 for 100 static and/or animated.

If you're going to up your prices, start by raising it on all those clients you have who said you should raise them. :winkwink:

I really dont want to bash Headless here but i dont understand why people say he could charge more. Yes they are nice but look at it. Its 4 different pictures with the same text on them. Some of you are saying thats worth 60 bucks...

Seriously, thats retarded. Anybody with basic photoshop skills can make these in a few mins. And even better, after you made the first one which takes 5 mins the other 3 can be done in 2 mins each roughly.

I bet Headless can make some nice things but i dont consider these banners designs and i also dont think hes worth 60 bucks per 10 mins.

You're not too far off, but like you said anyone with some basic knowledge of photoshop could do that. I'd venture to guess most people are clueless inside photoshop. I use it a bit less regularly than I have in the past these days, but I still learn something new or how to do something a different way all the time.

If what he's charging works for someone who doesn't know or can't...more power to headless. If wouldn't work for you or I, so we just don't put his services to use. Simple as that.

If they were cheaper or I didn't have to buy 100 at a time, I would be paying and not doing them all myself.

I would never pay $10/banner for something like that. You can probably make 10 banners like that in one hour. $100/hour isn't bad at all.

That's not true at all, it mostly depends on the going rate in the market, overall, for similar work, the competition, and how much the clients are willing to pay. No client's gonna give a flying fuck about how long you spend on them, as long as they get their orders delivered on time.

Nice Work. My advice is to keep the same price until you will get too much clients, then raise the price for the new ones

That statement is ridiculous. It's like saying anyone with a camera could be a photographer. You have no idea what raw material I was given to work with, where the pictures came from, or anything else for that matter.

It's very ignorant to assume one can do things in 10 minutes or less when they know nothing about the subject.
