Too Many Good TV Shows Get Cancelled, TV is Made for Idiots these Days

Just saw the early predictions for shows to be cancelled shortly and Journeyman is on the list. This comes after years when Arrested Development, Rome, and other great shows were cancelled. Of course the ratings winners are shows like Dancing with the Stars, Survivor, Big Brother and other shows that take no intellect to watch.

TV continues to head down the shitter. Probably replace Journeyman with another fucking reality show.

Brother Bilo 10-09-2007 02:47 PM

The whole reality thing has to hit a wall soon.......it has to.....I hope.

sortie 10-09-2007 02:48 PM

I gave up on tv a long time ago.

The sitcoms are the worse. It's like you have to be seriously stupid to watch them these days.

stev0 10-09-2007 02:50 PM

Reality TV is brutal...

the cavemen is also going to be canceled... leading candidate to be canceled..

Jason 10-09-2007 02:50 PM

When HBO cancelled John from Cincinnati. I havn't turned on any weekly shows since.

Mazuma Jason 10-09-2007 02:51 PM

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the best show going these days....which means it should be cancelled soon!

Sosa 10-09-2007 02:51 PM

what else is schedule to get cancelled?

Skillz Unlimited 10-09-2007 02:53 PM

It's called mindless entertainment. They want us to watch that crap to keep from thinking too much. When we start thinking too much, then the government has issues. Crazy thing is my woman loves that stuff. That in itself is scary.

Spoff 10-09-2007 02:55 PM

I agree some good ones will get the axe this season. I hope K-ville makes it. Good show so far. :2 cents:

SykkBoy 10-09-2007 02:55 PM

as long as they leave fucking Dexter alone...

I doubt it. It's cheap to produce and it caters to people who are dumb. The biggest show on TV is Dancing with the Stars. Anything that requires any intellect to watch is cancelled for low ratings.

That is one they are saying is probably as good as gone. Need to make room for the 8th hour of American Idol or Trading Spouses.

CyberHustler 10-09-2007 02:59 PM

This is why I loved Joost, but the new one doesn't work for Vista for some retarded ass backwards reason...

No, that's racist. For making an observation that your wife likes mindless TV.

Honez 10-09-2007 03:00 PM

No more Journeyman? Damn! One of the few shows I did like.

PaulB IYP 10-09-2007 03:09 PM

ah well its just tv

D 10-09-2007 03:21 PM

Yeah... I haven't bothered watching a single new series so far this season because I'm tired of vesting myself in a program only to see it taken away.

I'm not that excited about television right now... not even Heroes is doing it for me like it used to.

Zuss 10-09-2007 03:23 PM

Does anyone remember "Space- above and beyond" on fox? That was a great show. The guy responsible for canceling that show should rott in hell!

Journeyman is an awesome show...I hope it makes it.

Sucks that these new shows come out every year and you get hooked on them, and they get pulled.

I'm still crying over Studio 60 and Jericho from last year. :(

Brother Bilo 10-09-2007 03:32 PM

As long as Lost sticks around, I'll be happy. That's the only show I really watch, everything else is filler. Although, I can't help but like those shows like America's Funniest Home Videos that show dudes taking large or fast moving objects right to the onions. Pretty sure that won't get old as long as I live.

Elli 10-09-2007 04:49 PM

I don't think I watch any primetime stuff. Mostly I enjoy Drawn Together, Top Gear, Good Eats, Mythbusters, and those kickass BBC shows like "You are what you eat" and "Justin and (someone) on the Estate" and the show with the cleaning ladies. :)

Jericho is back I believe. I think it's only a half a season but still better than nothing.

Not yet. I was just reading the news and there was an article that said it is one of the shows that is most likely to get cut.

Thank god. I accidentally caught about 3 minutes of that show and it actually made me depressed.

Axeman 10-09-2007 04:56 PM

I really enjoy Big Brother, but it also is only on during the summer when its repeat season and doesn't take away from quality shows. I do also enjoy the Amazing race for reality programming.

Having Studio 60 from last year get canceled pissed me off.

After Shock Media 10-09-2007 04:56 PM

Sweet and I have been selected as a Nielson family for November.

Buhahahaha please keep listing shows you like and hope I like them as well if we happen to not get along. :winkwink:

Ok maybe I have not been selected, but then again maybe by legalities im supposed to say that I am, hmmmm..

ProjectNaked 10-09-2007 04:58 PM

Televison programing is and always has been produced to entertain simpletons. Every "reality" show on tv goes through HEAVY editing and many scenes are shot 3-4 times until the producers get the reactions they want. The majority of the scenes are planned out and stocked with extras. (Next time the cast members walk into a bar or building figure out why there are already cameras inside waiting and filming them walking in??)

The "good" shows, (programs with a plot, strong cast, inelligence,...) are cancelled because the audiences of higher iq viewers are opting to do work, build small businesses, or spending time with the family instead of vegitating in front of the "boob tube" like a pile of shit.

with satallite and digital cable taking over they know what sells and what doesn't. It's a fact that simpletons watch more "shows" than workers....thus the "reality" and "simpleton" shows are quickly replacing the "intelligent"...

Remember HBO cancelled Deadwood and Carinvale. Both of these shows where way better than John from Cinci. I wanted to like John from Cinci, but it was all over the place. The narrative was so convoluted/complex; it was difficult to pull anything out of that show. It probably should have been canceled.

The only show I am watching now is Californication.

I loved Six Feet Under.

I think it's tough to put HBO and Showtime in the mix. They almost always put out intelligent original programming. Their target market is someone who will pay for quality television.

Where can you find a list of TV shows that's going to be cancelled?

Paparazzi 10-09-2007 05:47 PM

did they cancel "jail"?

GrouchyAdmin 10-09-2007 05:49 PM

So, you're saying that only idiots are willing to watch bad TV.

Who knew? :helpme

I agree. I turned off the tube when Survivor was on the FIRST time. When reruns of my favorite shows were over, I switched to CourtTV and BBC America.

My TV's been unplugged for nearly a year, now. I don't miss it at all.

Good (dead) Shows: NewsRadio, Action!, Profit, Animaniacs :1orglaugh

Yeah it totally sucks. I loved shows like The West Wing and Studio 60, but unfortunately most people don't have a strong enough vocabulary to follow it.

Aaron Sorkin uses too many big words and has too much witty banter for the average viewer :disgust

Ya, they definitely have more winners than losers. They have about the only sit-com left (that is not a cartoon) that I can watch. (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

I've been watching him for 22 minutes, I think he took a shit in there.

Funniest thing I laughed at thus far...and then of course Dee getting blown up in the well with the kitties..."Oh come on!"

It's been this way for decades.

Welcome to the real world.

kane 10-09-2007 08:31 PM

I think a lot of it simply that many people work all day at a job they aren't overjoyed with then they get home and deal with kids, families, whatever and by the end of the night they are just tired and want to be mindlessly entertained for a few hours before they go to bed and they don't really want to have to put too much effort into the show. I think there are enough people out there that would be willing to give shows a chance, but the studios basically kill them before they have a chance. look at Jericho. It was doing okay and starting to build an audience then they took it off the air for 2 months and brought it back. By then many people had moved on or just lost interest.

Jericho was one of my favorite shows last season (thank God it's coming back later this year). Having Skeet Ulrich in your cast though seems to be bad karma. I was soooo mad when ABC canned 'Miracles' in 2003. Was the only time I have ever written a letter to a television network. I vowed to never watch another minute of programing on ABC again and to this date I still haven't. Thank God Monday Night Football is on ESPN now. :upsidedow

Martin3 10-09-2007 08:54 PM

Reality TV targets dumb people. Dumb people are easier to pursued. TV is all about selling advertising. Advertisers prefer to sell to people that will believe and buy their bullshit. You can figure out the rest.

On Rome, it was never meant to be more then one season. They only made the second season because of how well the first one did and the out cry from fans. There really isn't much more to tell in that story line.

I was really disappointed when they canceled Rome...everything about that show was great.

Great shows imho are...

CSI: Miami, CSI: Vegas, Crossing Jordan, Always Sunny in Philly, Eureka, Mythbusters...geez, my list is too long so i just posted my top 6 out of ten in no order.

Past fave...Sliders, the first and second seasons.

The reality is that these shows are popular with the masses. A larger percentage of the population prefers seeing people make asses out of themselves rather than watching shows that make you think.

A perfect example is CSI. A fairly smart show, it has always been top 10 material. However, when Grey's Anatomy moved into the same timeslot last season, ratings dropped. People prefered the almost mental soap opera to the procedural drama of CSI. The reply? CSI started a huge story arc about a personal relationship between two of the members of the cast and spun it hard as hell, pure soap. The end result? Ratings to start this season are above those of Grey's.

People prefered the soapy aspects of the show over the intelligent parts of the show, apparently.

You will never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. The networks know it.
