Does Yahoo traffic even matter anymore?

I'm sure all of you look at your logs and think this from time to time.

It seems like every url and page I have ever brought to life gets ranked decently in Yahoo.

But the traffic from Yahoo barely makes my dick hard.

Google on the other hand may not always rank me as well, but they send much more traffic.

What happened to Yahoo? Does it even matter anymore?

FredIsMe 10-13-2007 03:47 PM

I get about 4 times more traffic from Google than Yahoo. I still look at Yahoo ranking, but focus most on Google

sortie 10-13-2007 03:55 PM

Great post!

Because, I thought it was just me and I needed to focus more on getting yahoo traffic.

My directory listings dont even get anything worth thinking about.

After Shock Media 10-13-2007 03:58 PM

I somewhat agree but will gladly take all this nasty stuff of your hands if it bothers you much.

DamageX 10-13-2007 03:59 PM

Yahoo traffic is lesser in quantity but it buys better. Perhaps not enough to offset the difference in quantity compared to Google traffic, but it's definitely worth more per unique visitor.

Anyone want to sell me their useless yahoo traffic cheap?

yumma 10-13-2007 04:42 PM

yahoo rule! love that kind of traffic - converts better than google

bns666 10-13-2007 04:43 PM

hard to say.

my site is between 5th and 9th place for term "bondage" these days on google.

it receives ~72k visits to all the site's pages monthly just from google and at the same time incomparably little amount from yahoo and it isn't banned there.

Axeman 10-13-2007 04:53 PM

I personally find Yahoo has better buying traffic than Google. I get far less but it still buys on par.

notoldschool 10-13-2007 05:55 PM

yahoo does not convert better than google. Sorry.

Its pretty reverse for me, I always rank well in Google but bad not in Yahoo.

As long as considered buying, i don't think that there is some reason why someone using a specific search engine would not buy .. but its what I think, didn't analyzed so hard yet.

Worldnet 10-13-2007 06:02 PM

I have always found Yahoo traffic to be more productive than Google since the early days of the net.:thumbsup

Martin3 10-13-2007 06:24 PM

With equal ranking in both Google will net about 4-5 times the traffic. Some people claim yahoo converts better. I've never really noticed the difference, but with such a difference in the quantities it's hard to measure.

One think I hate about Yahoo. Is even though they spider your site daily it takes forever for it to update it's index sometimes. I have one site that gets hits from yahoo to images and pages that haven't been on the server for well over a year now.

HXMGP 10-13-2007 07:53 PM

The PPC yahoo traffic converts a ton better than Google PPC traffic. Google gets like 3x more traffic I think than yahoo but the quality of person using Yahoo is better.

I guess you could compare it to an eBay shopper versus an Amazon shopper. The Ebay shopper is looking for a steal and doesn't want to pay much and the Amazon shopper typically has more disposable income and is looking for something more unique and is willing to pay for it too...

My 2¢

pornguy 10-13-2007 07:59 PM

I have found that lately the Yahoo traffic is as productive as google, and often somewhat better.

Cash 10-13-2007 11:18 PM

Yahoo lost the competition with Google a long time ago ...

martinsc 10-13-2007 11:21 PM

Yahoo what?
i focus only on google

I don't know if it converts better or worse, but there's certainly a lot less of it compared to google. I tend to target google and, as a by-product, do as well as can be expected on yahoo. Free traffic is free traffic.

Corn Dogg 10-14-2007 07:03 AM

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh... You sir are an ignorant mother fucker for not seeing through your own statement. By the post I assumed we were talking about adult traffic. We are on a adult webmaster board are we not you fuck tard. We are all basing our OPINIONS on our previous experience and knowing that I have hundreds of first page listings in both SE's I would say i can voice my own opinion on the market. You might try acting like a badass to the original post maker (pornwolf) but your too much of a pussy seeing as he pretty much said the same thing as myself just in different words. I say once again Google traffic converts much better than yahoo.

Thanks for filling him in. I do not post under my company name for reasons just like this. By your past two posts I can safely assume that you are much closer to a newbie than I was when I started in 02. :2 cents:

BTW the second part of my last post was aimed at guy who has to push billing companies in his sig.

Thank you for clarifying that, however, since I may have your attention . . . many of us deal with mainstream as well as adult, and as ASM suggested, if that damn Yahoo traffic is becoming a burden, I will gladly take it off your hands for a minimal charge.

Now that you ignorance was addressed.

The only reason it peeked my attention is that it's common sense a lot of this board deals with adult and mainstream. Something your ASSumption was incorrect about.

Secondly, depending on the type of site, or what you are referring to. Some convert better with MSN, and Yahoo versus Google. If you talk to any mainstream SEO or people who've been in the business a number of years they can explain the demographics, and conversions based on the offers and what you are selling.

Typically you will get less traffic with the others. But they conversions (again depending on what it is) will be better. Google may have more traffic and click throughs. But your conversions ratio may be less, but have more sales.

This is all a numbers game.

But for anyone who wants to talk in "absolutes" from their ass saying something like this for example, "yahoo does not convert better than google." Should be corrected as you have been.

The point was simple. Depending on the site, product, or market. Some convert better with Yahoo/MSN, and some with Google. For overall traffic only (adult thinking) Google is king.

I know you would love me to prove it but looking hosting company link in your sig its obvious you have no clue how to get se traffic and you would most likely learn something and I want no part in that.

No. I was talking to you bitch.

This is an adult board, correct? I could give a shit if you work in adult or mainstream, you still have no clue.

When you get a credible amount of either search engines traffic you will realize what I mean. IN MY EXPERIENCE google not only gets higher volume..it converts WAY better. I was not stating what every site on the internet makes from every SE because none of us really know the awnser to that, but my program, TGP's, free sites, and resource sites all have had better conversions with google traffic throughout my network, and at one time I got WAY more traffic from Yahoo than Google. Please show us an example of your SE skills so we can all have a little laugh.

Sorry that I got caught up in this moot argument, but if you look at my original post before attacking me, you would see that you actually just restated what I had posted.

"yahoo does not convert better than google."
You just took 400 more words to say it.

i second that! :thumbsup

i got nearly 4 times less yahoo traffic and have totally the same number of sales, according to the stats. so i say: my vote for yahoo! :thumbsup

TheDoc 10-14-2007 11:14 AM

No argument that Google has way more traffic than Yahoo. You just need to find the keyword phrases in Yahoo that have higher search volumes than Google does for the same phrase.

pornask 10-14-2007 11:17 AM

One of my sites gets a lot of yahoo traffic and it's been a good traffic for me. Best quality SE traffic I get comes from msn.

Blanket statements like this are ridiculous. Ask 100 site owners / analysts who monitor this in detail and you'll get plenty of arguments for both SEs. Way too many factors to simply say one converts better than the other ... though I'd be willing to bet they BOTH convert better than Kanoodle - for anything ;)

Heh, I don't even believe Kanoodle is real traffic anymore. It's gotta be all Chinese or 95% hitbot or something.

I know this isn't conected with the thread topic, but how about other smaller PPC SE's?

whats your experience?

Pornwolf 10-14-2007 12:23 PM

Not worth the effort TBH. I messed around with most of them a while ago but found that the amount of traffic wasn't enough to deal with them seriously.

Not to mention there is a high percentage of fake/crappy traffic from some of them.

It's best to spend the time maximizing your Google/Yahoo paid clicks... and if you do mainstream Microsoft's Adcenter as well.

That will take a nice amount of time in itself.

HouseHead 10-14-2007 12:39 PM

yahoo traffic converts better than 70% of my other traffic..
