Downloaded the newest version of ubuntu

and Ive been born again hard, this rocks. Now if someone creates a program to move all firefox passwords and bookmarks from windows firefox to ubuntu it would be perfect.

GrouchyAdmin 10-19-2007 09:31 AM

cp -r /media/windows/Documents and Settings/your login/.mozilla/firefox/profiles/somerandomcraphere/. ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles/newrandomcraphere

I'm passing on "Gutsy". The new kernel memory allocation shit breaks ATI drivers. Fuck that.

There is an add-on for firefox to export your passwords...

http://firefox.fligtar.com/passwordexporter/

For your bookmarks just go to Bookmarks.. Organize Bookmarks... File.. Export

It will save it as an html file you can import into firefox on ubuntu

I just did this from my windows laptop to my mac G5 desktop and my ubuntu desktop

StuartD 10-19-2007 09:42 AM

Yeah, all I did was just copy the profile directories for firefox and thunderbird from windows into linux and voila... they everything is there. Auto complete, passwords, bookmarks... everything.

It seems Ubuntu almost has its shit together on this one.
The thing I've always hated w/ linux [ well, i love it, but it's a love hate thing ] is the fact that sometimes you just have to wrestle hard to get basic things going, and sometimes things just break for absolutely no fucking reason.. I'd be happy to switch, but XP has a tendancy to just fucking work and not get in my way..

I run the Ubuntu live cd when I need to log onto something and be 100% sure spyware isn't getting my passwords.

Ubunto truly is amazing. I just got to know and use it and I am amazed what they managed to do with it. Windows sucks.

It's not bad but I much prefer Fedora. I'm eager for Fedora Core 8 to come out next month :)

GrouchyAdmin 10-19-2007 03:55 PM

Now if you want a truly tied-together experience, try Kubuntu. I'll admit the menus can be a little intimidating at first, and the browser is going to be a little buggy.. but man having everything just work together is so damn niiice. :thumbsup

I just downloaded Fedora Core 8 a couple of days ago (haven't installed it yet). What do I have here, a beta? You waiting on the final?

Yeah, chances are you have Fedora Core 8 Test 2 or Test 3. The final release is due out on Nov 8th.

BradM 10-19-2007 04:04 PM

-core. It's just "fedora" now ;)

btw, last time I tried a pre release I had a lot of issues. I tend to wait for the full release. Nov 8 will be a good day
