Castaic fire is getting bigger (pics) from my house

Castaic fire isn't getting the media attention that the Malibu one is, but it's growing. With the winds predicted to be upwards of 90 mph again tonight, this monster could be something to contend with. I live about 14 miles from Castaic, due south in the valley. The smoke and ash is starting to fall in Chatsworth. When I went out to take these pics the winds were blowing pretty hard and I could feel little bits of ash on my skin and getting in my eyes. Reminds me of the San Diego fires a few years back.

I'll take some more later. Here's a little 360 view. Since I shot these the sky is pretty much black where the blue was already.

Reporting live. KWOOF News.

seeric 10-21-2007 03:40 PM

the wind is blowing pretty damn hard due south, so the blue skies will be black here in an hour at most.

The sky is completely orange here, it feels like I'm in the movie Silent Hill when I walk outside, wish I hadn't lost my digi cam I'd take pics. The sun is completely red, too. Wild shit.

Spunky 10-21-2007 06:05 PM

Scary shit man..hope they contain it soon

J$tyle$ 10-21-2007 06:22 PM

800 families evacuated here in canyon country

Was just on ABC Channel 7 news

holding down the fort unless we hear anything different.

This was an otherwise cloud-less day.

Winds have been 50 - 60 mph

Fire is 0% contained right now and has been going for hours.

Close to my house but not too close YET!

All the smoke has been blowing away from us but that could change any time, obviously.

They have been showing the Malibu fires over here on the BBC some of the houses have gone up in smoke hope they get it under control for all you guys that are near the fires.

J$tyle$ 10-21-2007 06:28 PM

Wow! Shit's fucked up

With firefighting resources already stretched thin by the blaze in Malibu, a fire near Agua Dulce exploded in scope, and is now at 10,000 acres and threatening the Canyon Country area.

About 800 evacuations have been ordered, and 3,800 homes are said to be threatened, according to county fire officials, who say two structures have been lost.

yah saw the halftime news special right now. that fire isn't stopping anytime soon. with the way they are predicting the winds tonight to accelerate it could easily double by morning. the firefighting resources are stretched so thin and with the chances of other fires popping up in other parts of cali like san diego and the area between l.a. and san diego, those areas are keeping their resources at home and not sending them here to help in the castaic area. malibu is of course getting more attention because thats where the celebrities and all the money is, which as we know, is whats really important</sarcasm>. this is an all around fucked up situation. i feel for all those people. hopefully mother nature is gonna be nice tonight and not be a cunt.

qxm 10-21-2007 07:04 PM

and that wasn't the only fire today......there was another one in SF Road and about 5 others I heard about.... (-_-)......

freepornpig 10-21-2007 07:07 PM

Shit thats fucked up. Couldn't happen here on the wet coast of Canada, I'm getting ready to build an ark, its raining so much day after day after day.
and I loved that movie silent hill.
I hoping everyone will be allright.

we went though fires here in our small community a few summers ago. Burned right through some rolling hills of pine trees upto our state college lines. Those pictures reminded me of what we seen back then.

Good luck to you all

Hey E, hope you are safe and want to extend an invitation to you and any of my other friends in the OC and LA fire areas. you are welcome to stay here in Dana Point at my pad. you can either drive down or take the train and i can pick up at the San Clemente station. we are fire free here but the dust in the air from the heavy winds has us dark and gloomy as well. this is not a party invite, it is an evacuation and safety offer (not referring to you E) :)

Andy Servers4Less 10-22-2007 11:21 AM

Holy cow.. Didnt realize it was that big.

Rochard 10-22-2007 11:22 AM

About two years ago I was driving home from LA to Sacramento when there was a fire in the Castaic area. The 5 was shut down - more or less the only route over the grapevine. I heard some people were stuck in traffic for ten hours.

I pulled out a map and veered off the five, heading west, and took small country roads. I had just got my Cobra so I was having a blast... until one of the roads I had planned to take was more or less a dirt road..... And I had to cross a stream.

You guys and your fires.... I still don't understand why anyone lives in SoCal.

Violetta 10-22-2007 11:24 AM

Looks scary... Have a glass of water ready!

wdsguy 10-22-2007 11:25 AM

i'm good buddy. the fires and wind are keeping us out of harms way so far. its those flying red flaming embers that travel miles in the crazy winds that end up starting fires other places. the winds have subsided a little, but at night tonight they are going to start picking up again. we're ok at the moment. the winds have shifted and that giant cloud of smoke that was above us is now blue skies again. :thumbsup thanks immortal, we are ok for now. i appreciate the offer. i think i'd be better off sleeping at the office in van nuys though, not sure how i'd do that commute from dana point every day. :)

This has been a KWOOF News update. Meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
