Not sure what degree it may or may not be relevant, but a cancer patient is a profit center and without a cure. They can be killed off with overdoses of chemo and a cocktail of drugs - as long as they have a health insurance policy to cover it (or pay) for the priviledge. Cynical attitude, but suspect there is at least some foundation.
It's the same with less problematic healthcare - extreme and silly example: you can have a broken finger and die of a drugs overdose due to failure/poisoning of internal organs. But... it's surprisingly common.
