How do I stop sites from realising I am in Spain?

I have just moved to Spain and Google, AFF etc. think I am in Spain and give me spanish content - other than using a proxy how can I get around this?

Thanks

[ScreaM] 10-27-2007 09:04 AM

Hey how are the woman there?

Adultnet 10-27-2007 09:07 AM

yeah .. geoip :) well on sites as google you can just type google.com or .co.uk and they will open the English version

JOKER 10-27-2007 09:18 AM

Strange, don't seem to have that problem here...

Usually I can always choose what language etc. I prefer.

If everything else fails - set up a VPN on one of your servers, or use a VPN Service, they usually are not that expensive.

there is a link on google search page:

Google.com in English

click on it and it will set an English cookie for you.

TeenCat 10-27-2007 09:39 AM

Not into twinks - but yes - the place is alive with them......

Polish - Im renting a 3 bed for 400 euros a month - cheap compared to London - not to shabby either.

3 bed you mean 3 bedrroms and 1 living room or just 3 rooms, or somethign else? its sometimes hard to understand because in different countries it's called differently

btw how many square meters? 400 euro per month sounds really cheap for such an apartment though, especially in a place which is warm most of the year and isn't in a bad neighborhood :winkwink:

but i assume you need an extra 100 euros for bills?

got any pics perhaps? i could move there as well, although not too close to you :winkwink:

From what you are saying a proxy system may be the only option

AtlantisCash 10-27-2007 12:28 PM

You have option to choose for language, but http-tunnel is the best solution for what You need, just pay 5 bucks per month and You have done.

it's still counted as a proxy thing, but at least You don't need to set any proxy.

http://www.http-tunnel.com

Terrible. Canary Islands are a nice place, but I couldn't stand the latino-looking woman and their stupid music they play everywhere you move. Makes you puke wherever you go :throwup

Firefox will have a tendancy to serve shit in spanish, while IE tends to stick to english.

As posters have pointed out though, VPN or proxy are your best bets, with VPN being the better of the two.

TidalWave 10-29-2007 04:26 AM

Farang 10-29-2007 04:31 AM

Easiest way is to pay a tech $10 to setup tinyproxy on one of your US based servers and setup a restricted US proxy allowing access to your spanish IP. Dealing with public proxies really aren't worth the trouble obviously.

My girlfriends best friend moved to Tenerife last month. Her and her boyfriend work in a bar called the Dubliner. Her dad owns several appartments out there that he rents out. She loves it and isn't coming home anytime soon!

I will post pics when I finally unpack....... :winkwink::winkwink:

I actually do have sea veiws, but they are distant from the back balcony - nice sitting out there with the laptop.

The weather I would guess is like north Florida without the humidity and hurricanes.

Ross.... I havnt seen 'The Dubliner' up here - is she on the south of the island?

tinyproxy is great, and easy to setup, but a VPN has many more advantages over this....

lol - I know - I think I will stay here though - I cant deal with the UK - u should get your ass over here - its sooooo cheap - duty free island.....

If you drink and smoke you cant lose here - what I save in cigs pays my rent and more.

I could live here with 3 AFF sales a WEEK!!!

Everything else is icing on the cake.

Whatever I do I still get Spanish ads..... its often the ads that give the best results.

VPN on my US server is the way to go I think.......

Any recomendations for setting this up - its new to me?

Sarah_Jayne 10-29-2007 09:20 AM

Naw, the UK was my big move and I actually like it here. I don't speak Spanish and don't want to be one of those people that never learn when they move to Spain. Heck, it has taken me thing long to learn British English :)

Playa De Las Americas it is she moved to... not sure where that is, I've been before but it was 14 years ago when I was young and with my parents.

Welcome to "The Rock" :thumbsup
You in the South? Not in PLA for 400 p/m surely?
I've been in Tenerife 8 years and would never return to the UK.

I get pissed off with the geo sites that don't have an English option, usually just shut them down and look elsewhere. They don't seem to realise the amount of English speaking people that live in non English speaking countries.

Yes, The Dubliner's in PDLA. A lively bar with an excellent live band that has people dancing on the tables all night. Don't go before about 1am.
