Mercedies-benz - FUCK YOU

so I have a blow out today.

have a new Mercedes - only about 3-4 months old.

anyway - call roadside assistance - they change it- limp car to dealer on tiny spare.

they don't have any of my tires in stock - this was Thursday - said i have to wait till wed for a tire and i can't drive home (120km) on that dinky tire so they arrange me a rental car and say call Mercedes and they will pay the cost of it - i pay upfront and they reimburse - no prob.

i don't go extravagant or even equivalent - just a $30/day rental regular dodge Dakota 1/2 ton truck - very plain.

anyway Mercedes (not my dealer) calls me today and says they won't pay cause emergency roadside assistance didn't tow my car to the dealer.

even though my dealer told me NOT to drive the car and leave it there and my contract SAYS i have guaranteed mobility.

so much for that BULLSHIT

pissed doesn't even describe how I'm feeling now. not about the money - a few hundred won't hurt me - about getting FUCKED over. a NEW Mercedes you would THINK should a least give you a courtesy car when yours is broken - u THINK????????????????

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

Sebastian Sands 11-05-2007 04:44 PM

you call roadside assistance so they can change a spare for you?
Afraid to get your hands dirty?

WiredGuy 11-05-2007 04:44 PM

I have a similiar gripe about my Acura extended warranty. Absolute bullshit, had to get a replacement rear differential, and they get out of the extended warranty by saying wear and tear isn't covered. Bull fucking shit, the car had 30,000km, that's not wear and tear, that's pieces of shit parts.

Moral of the story, don't trust any car dealers. They'll do whatever it takes to get out of paying.

all dealers are the same

gaymale 11-05-2007 04:48 PM

You mean the dealership didn't have a loaner car on their lot? Well next time you know that when you're at the dealership and they tell you you can't use your own car, just push it off the lot and call roadside assistance to tow it back on the lot, just to make sure.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 11-05-2007 04:48 PM

Why dont you have other cars?

I mean if you got a Mercedes I really hope it is not your only car.

I got 3 cars 2 of which are restored classic TR6 (Rebuilt this summer ) and a Cobra kit car with a Chevy 350 (Still being built but almost done). If you can afford a Mercedes ya should be able to afford other cars first no?

A friend of mine in the auto industry (handles the big Chicago car show) told me that Mercedes has lowered their quality a lot over the years. Not just in the quality of their vehicle, but in the service that comes with it (trying to increase margins). My dad had one when I was a kid and that shit would NEVER happen back then. You were treated like a God by Mercedes-Benz.

Here's an interesting article:

This is what you do:

Call them back, tell them your good friend at your local news station found this to be a great idea for a news story about bad customer service lately with certain car dealerships, and you need to know the contact information for who he should contact so he can get more information about your particular case because he wants to interview you about your experience because you also own a BMW and had a much better customer service experience, and get the other side of the story as well.

My Audi is brand new, when I had 1000 miles on it the fuel pump died while I was driving 50 (thats about 90 in funny-land speeds). It's a factory defect that most Audi owners experience. Even Q7s are always on the side of the road.

My tire blew (Continentals are shit btw), my brakes have squeaked since day 1 and are touchy as hell.

My 1987 Handa CRX was more reliable than a 2007 Audi A4.

They do NOT make them like they used to.

DEA - banned for life 11-05-2007 05:09 PM

...not to be an ass..but getting people to feel bad for you because your mercedes is down and the delaer wont give you a loaner might be somewhat of an uphill battle..still id be pissed too after dropping the loot u did on that ride

I have 12 service records from my Audi being in the shop for brakes alone.

I currently have a 2007 Jetta 2.5, and the 2007 A4. I have owned: 2000 Cavalier z24, 2000 Cavalier base, 1990 Jeep Wrangler, 1987 Jeep wrangler, 1987 honda crx, 1994 bmw 318is, 1992 bmw 325i, 2007 jeep wrangler rubicon

I know how a new "luxury" car should feel. I didn't pay 32k for a car to piss me off every time I drive it.

Or were you hinting at something else?

Minte 11-05-2007 05:34 PM

The MB dealership here in Madison has been nothing but professional. They sell BMW,Porsche,Audi and MB and anytime I bring a car in for any service they have a loaner car waiting. One time they didn't have one and they sent a fellow over to hertz and rented one for me on their nickel.

Gabriel 11-05-2007 05:40 PM

**** Just a friendly reminder to all newer Benzo owners ****

Remember to use the correct lugbolts for the spare. Otherwise you'll fuck up the parking brakes inside the (rear) rotor.

Ryan St. Germain 11-05-2007 05:56 PM

I had a dealership take 6 days to change a battery.

Back in the day, if a car came into a dealership twice for the same problem, someone was likely to pay some sort of consequence for it. Today when a car comes in to a dealership twice, they generally point to "pilot error" first.

Another big issue i see is the whole "service writer" position. Most service writers know fuck all about cars, and you have to explain something to them about a car, and PRAY they have enough sense to pass it on (or write it up) to a mechanic. You don't generally speak directly to the person that works on your car, so a lot of times, the problems you have are never really addressed.

I've had an issue with the electrical system in my car since the day it rolled off the lot. So far they have replaced fuses more than once, and now a fried battery. I'm no mechanic, but it seems to me that they might take the time to look a little deeper into it. But that's the average dealership.

I'm driving A4 wich is a few years old and haven't had any problems since the day I got it except the squeaking clutch pedal ....... was thinking of buying either another (new or newish) Audi or Merc next year but now you guys will make me consider other options

CarlosTheGaucho 11-05-2007 06:21 PM

One thing that's not talked about is, that the US models of german cars ARE in deed in many cases lower quality then what you buy in Europe.

I can't remember where are they put together but I was seriously warned not to get BMW if I wanted to use the (way cheaper) price that is in US for some Audi's / BMW's etc (cars in US are incredibly cheap anyway..). And I was warned from a guy who imports these cars (like Porsche Cayenne / BMW X3 etc.) here to Europe to sell them.

The whole Mercedes thing surprises me though, I can't imagine the guys in Germany beeing happy about this.. This brand is expensive / but also totally trusted around here.

If I would be to choose I would rather go with Lexus though / if not better technology for a lower price plus mercedes is not a car for a dude under 40 in my opinion..

Young 11-05-2007 06:29 PM

next time buy a big boy model like a s550, s650, cl550, cl650, e63 etc

people with ML's, CLK's and C classes don't get love from dealers.

The alternator died in my first Audi in the second month of ownership. I was out of state and stayed in a hotel for 2 nights while they told me the dealership was putting in a replacement. Turns out they had to get the part from Germany. They refused to pull it out of one of the cars on the lot.

Needless to say I had a convertible mustang for one month. When I put in my claim for reimbursement they were fucking around big time. My lawyer got back every last dime (hotel & car).

Seems like to have a Mercedes still makes a huge deal in US :) it's one of the most usual cars around here (with all the older types). But yes I guess it's something as if I drived here a Mustang (yes I would love to..:))

I believe this too and is also reflected on the 2nd hand/reselling market where american MB that happened to enter europe are getting sold cheaper than the equivalent european ones. I can't confirm this, but I have the impression a decade ago this wasn't the case.

They take the kings of customer service pretty serious. All my customer service skills came from them and remain with me. You learn the customer is the only reason we are here, without the customer we are nothing.

Peaches 11-05-2007 08:01 PM

I haven't owned a car in years that didn't have a full spare. I can't believe MB doesn't offer one!

In the US, loaner cars are at the discretion of the dealer. I've always gotten a loaner and they've made sure it was an upgraded one that had the power/ability to get up and down my road. Sounds like the dealer's being a jackass.

bmb - my Dad has run flats on his car and says they are only good for 50 miles AND they every time he's had a problem he's had to replace the tire instead of getting a plug. But he drives like a maniac.
