Smart car in USA in January

They have been all over Canada for a few years now, and I laugh every time I go home. They are silly little cars. But I think they will sell like hot cakes in the US. Everyone bitches about gas.

The one thing that will deter people is the size. But have you see the smart car crash test?

Lookin good.

StuartD 11-08-2007 04:30 PM

Wow, that car held up very well for such an impressive impact.

Mr.White 11-08-2007 04:30 PM

They are available for about 10 years allready over here in europe. Kinda every companies owns one, blastered with commercials.

Btw, Smart = Mercedes

avolongold 11-08-2007 04:47 PM

I seen them everywhere in Spain and Italy this summer

nikki99 11-08-2007 04:52 PM

Maybe LAST January. There is a Smart dealership 2 miles from my house.

L-Pink 11-08-2007 05:03 PM

Brad, gas mileage aside wasn't their main selling feature in European cities their small size when trying to parking?

L-Pink 11-08-2007 05:04 PM

I was at an RV show a few years ago and a bus manufacturer had a slot in the rear of their RV to pull a Smart car into ...:thumbsup

Correct, and its apparently useful in other places too. UBC has a lot of smart cars and they are now making parking areas just for the cars because they are so small, they can fit 2 in 1 spot.

If we replaced all those damn SUV grocery getter city drivers with these, we may do ourselves a big favor.

Also at 11k you can't go wrong, I know to buy one in Victoria it was about double that.

papill0n 11-08-2007 05:21 PM

neat car!

Chio 11-08-2007 05:27 PM

HAHA smart car (modified) kicks ass against a ferrari.

abadfish 11-08-2007 05:36 PM

They had a an article about them a few months ago in the local newspaper. A few people around here already have them, imported from Europe.

I really want to get one. I need a new car and I'd love to have a small efficient car.

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 11-08-2007 05:45 PM

Wow... a compact compact!

^^

.

porsche 11-08-2007 05:46 PM

they are every where here in Australia

Xrated J 11-08-2007 05:48 PM

damn....

VeriSexy 11-08-2007 05:59 PM

i'd fell claustrophobic in them

pornguy 11-08-2007 06:09 PM

They have them here as well, and they actually have a good amount of room.
Might make a good second car.

Vitasoy 11-09-2007 09:22 AM

Whoever drives that is asking for trouble

fuzebox 11-09-2007 10:30 AM

Man I fucking hate them, mostly because of how goofy they look and how pretentious their owners are. Every time I see one parked perpendicular to the curb I want to slap the owner.

Beating a Ferrari in the 1/4 mile is not an accomplishment... Mid 13s is attainable for any front wheel drive economy 4 cyl with intermediate mods... Nevermind that Ferrari has never tried to make a car to impress drag racers.

Shagbunny 11-09-2007 10:32 AM

it's funny that alot of people put down these cars due to their size but don't realize the tech that went into them

jalami 11-09-2007 10:50 AM

I'd be more interested in the Smart EV that's being tested in the UK, what with where the fuel prices are going.

Sunny 11-09-2007 11:26 AM

crazzzzzzzyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Mercedes made bank with those things. A lot of European companies bought those things and plastered them with "wraps". The drove them into malls and out doors shopping centers, expos , you saw them everywhere.

I wonder which sponsor will be the first on one of the shows to have one.

Yeah you are right about that I remember every bloody show you went to including motorcycle shows their was at least one sponser running a competition to win a smart car, they are a bit old in the hill over here now and you dont see it very much with smart cars anymore.I do see a lot of companys still using them as company cars I guess with their names plastered all over them though.

bobby666 11-09-2007 02:41 PM

i've allready owned both cars : smart & roadster
sooo much fun to drive

sue 11-09-2007 02:41 PM

They have been around in Europe for many years already. Especially in the south, not much of a car to drive up north during the winter:-) They are great for parking and does not need a lot of gas. Love the new models :-)

*hugs and kisses*

Mercedes has lost their ass on Smart cars. Since their introduction they have yet to have a profit on this model.

As far as I know, Mercedes lost money with Smart from the beginning until about the year 2005.

Trax 11-09-2007 03:27 PM

like the car or not... the crash test results are fucking impressive

lucas131 11-09-2007 03:29 PM

pretty cool

MaDalton 11-09-2007 04:40 PM

i can't really say i like Smarts, but there are 2 common mistakes about them made over and over again:

- they are not unsafe - as you can see in the video. i saw accidents myself with them and it was always the other cars that looked really bad

- they have actually a lot of space for the 2 passengers, no need to feel claustrophobic.

i didn't drive the new one yet, but the old one really sucked for its shitty transmission that made you go forth and back everytime it shifts and the cheap plastic interior. otherwise they are good enough to replace 95% of the trips that you now make with Tahoes or F150 or whatever that does 10 mpg :winkwink:

L-Pink 11-09-2007 04:44 PM

The Smart diesels if Mercedes imports are an incredible buy. 40 mpg and a motor that lasts a long, long time with little maintenance.

Ya I saw that crash test....pretty awesome....We had one at our odyssey day ( for our college) I was surprised at how much leg room there was inside...The college kids loved it, their fun to try out but, i don't think I would ever be interested in buying one. No storage.:2 cents:

There was a dispute in Australia when two smart cars were parked into one spot, and the drivers were fined. The question that was posed was are you paying per car, or per space? From memory the drivers won the case.
