Things You Should Know But Probably Don't
1. Money isn't made out of paper. It's made out of cotton.
2. The Declaration of Independence was written on hemp (marijuana) paper. 3. The dot over the letter "I" is called a "tittle". 4. A raisin dropped in a glass of fresh champagne will bounce up and down continuously from the bottom of the glass to the top. 5. Donald Duck comics were banned from Finland because he doesn't wear pants. 15. Ketchup was sold in the 1830's as medicine.. 16. Upper and lower case letters are named 'upper' and 'lower' because in the time when all original print had to be set in individual letters, the 'upper case' letters were stored in the case on top of the case that stored the smaller, 'lower case' letters. 17. Leonardo Da Vinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time hence, multitasking was invented. 18.. Because metal was scarce, the Oscars given out during World War II were made of wood. 19. There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos. 20. The name Wendy was made up for the book Peter Pan; there was never a recorded Wendy before! 21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver! 22. Leonardo DaVinci invented scissors. Also, it took him 10 years to paint Mona Lisa's lips. 23. A tiny amount of liquor on a scorpion will make it instantly go mad and sting itself to death. 24. The mask used by Michael Myers in the original "Halloween" was a Captain Kirk's mask painted white. 25. If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar (good to know.) 26. OJ Simpson and Kobe Bryant are still walking around; Osama Bin Laden too, but they take the ONE woman in America willing to cook, clean, and work in the yard, and they haul her fanny off to jail." |
At least one, and probably more of these facts are simply not true. Eating an apple does not cause one to burn more calories than are gained by consuming the apple. Depending on the size of the apple, one might be ingesting about 80-100 calories or so minus a few measly calories to chew it.

26. By raising your legs slowly and lying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand (and you thought this list was completely useless.)
IŽll remember this one for when IŽll walk through the next quicksand in Marbella:thumbsup |

I just want to know two things.
Who the hell READ the entire dictionary to find the misspellings. And are there any qualifications that had to be met to get the job? |
nice read, thanks =)
|
i love lists like this. :) i'm proud that i knew a few of those!
|
Another one on the dictionary...what did they use for reference to make sure it was spelled right? I guess another dictionary, but who is to say which dictionary was right?
|
12. Orcas (killer whales) kill sharks by torpedoing up into the shark's stomach from underneath, causing the shark to explode.

These are 100% false... Geez.
|
cool list
|
Some in there I know as truth... and learned a few things, too (gonna have to try #4 :) )... most are reasonable...
But, yeah, as has been mentioned, some are simply false. #26 doesn't apply because, well, there's no such thing as a stationary pool of quicksand - that's myth; probably derived from tar pits. The concept was featured in an episode of Mythbusters... and busted. :2 cents: |
21. There are no words in the dictionary that rhyme with: orange, purple, and silver!
Orange - Challenge Purple - Baffel Silver - Alter |

man o man you guys are slow
around here lmao Suicide misconception The belief that scorpions commit suicide by stinging themselves to death when surrounded by fire is of considerable antiquity and is often prevalent where these animals exist. It is nevertheless untrue since the venom has no effect on the scorpion itself, nor on any member of the same species (unless the venom is injected directly into the scorpion's nerve ganglion?quite an unlikely event outside of the laboratory). The misconception may derive from the fact that scorpions are poikilotherms (cold-blooded): when exposed to intense heat their metabolic processes malfunction. This causes the scorpion to spasm wildly and this spasming may appear as if the scorpion is stinging itself. It is also untrue that alcohol will cause scorpions to sting themselves to death. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorpio...haracteristics |

DING!!! Winner. But I can hardly believe you took the time to post that, since the people who believe such things probably cannot be persuaded to change their minds anyway. |
