Somebody please explain this to me, PLEASE!!!
Ok So I have lived in San Diego for the past 26 years and I have seen my fair share of cars get stolen. Most of the cars stolen are older hondas, or toyotas and 100% of the stories are exactly the same. Whats going on here?
Older car stolen, people wake up report it, they get a call from the police that the car was found on the side of the road and it was being towed to the local tow yard which you have to pay $300 to get out. Most of these tow yards are on contract with the city. Nobody is making any money off this but the city and the tow yards which makes me think this is some kind of huge scam going on. Each time the batteries are removed also so someone else cant steal it or you cant find it and pick it up. |
The tow companies are stealing cars? What else?

My brother quit driving a tow truck in Jersey, because they wanted him to do random grabs.

holy shit sounds like a racket for sure

cops let towing companies get away with outrageous shit in my experience

That happens in Phoenix all the time. I think each news channel runs a scam buster segment on the various tow truck companies every year. I guess it doesn't really make a difference because it keeps happening.
Most likely, if you can fight it with any kind of proof and have the time it takes, you can get the fee waived, but most of the time it's not worth it. One of those catch 22's I guess. |
