Good idea or bad? Comix online

http://www.reuters.com/article/newsO...60932220071113

Marvel's posting up their comic lines online. Do you think it will fly? I don't know about you, but there's something different to actually holding a comic book and seeing the art on paper. Maybe Marvel is just getting back at all the rippers who scan their stuff into jpg format and post their stuff online. I'm still not sure if this will make money though. Although there is something to be said for "pure" online versions available from the publisher itself.

Any fellow comic fans here?

can't be any worse than audio books.

Is the impact the same in audio books as it is for music CDs?

Many people want the tangible feel, especially collectors for obvious reason... but todays children are digital. They don't even see paper unless it's in a class room.

So I think it's a smart move... might take some time to grow on people, but now's the time.

They (the market in general) have been testing the market for awhile now... with special limited releases of certain online comic books - a few of them revolving around certain television series...

So there seems to be an audience for it... I'm sure it'll catch on in some circles, but, yeah... I'm with you... there's something about tangible goods.

I've read comics online before and then gone out and bought the issue. You're right, there's nothing quite like the feel of a comic in your hand and turning those pages as you read them. Plus, you can't read a comic in the bath when it's online! :winkwink:

But, for some comics you need to be reading 2 or 3 other titles at the same time just to keep up on what's happening. Having the comics online will allow those people who can't afford to buy them all to keep up to date.

Personally I think this will benefit Marvel by giving even more exposure and branding to their many titles. I reckon comic readers will ALWAYS buy comics, I don't think the online format will ever be a full substitute for real comics. :2 cents:

Good point. It would also go a long way re building new fan bases. There are unauthorized back copy sites available but they, I'm sure, will pale in comparison to high quality scans from the publishers themselves.
