BUENOS AIRES, Argentina ? A Canadian cruise ship struck submerged ice off Antarctica and began sinking, but all 154 passengers and crew, Americans and Britons among them, took to lifeboats and were plucked to safety by a passing cruise ship.

The entire vessel finally slipped beneath the waves Friday evening, about 20 hours after the predawn accident near Antarctica's South Shetland Islands, the Chilean navy said.

Thats as rediculous as "Captain Cook Circumnavigates globe, finds Australia, creates a tyranical society, only to be eaten by canibals"
coincidence is the expressed anonimity of the creator. I say u gotta die, and what better way than that.

Oops.... is starboard the right or the left?

I saw this eariler but this quote is crazy...

"The ship ran into some ice. It was submerged ice and the result was a hole about the size of a fist in the side of the hull so it began taking on water ... but quite slowly," said Susan Hayes of G.A.P. Adventures of Toronto, which owns the stricken MS Explorer."

How the fuck does a hole the size of a fist sink a boat that big? I thought all boats that big had to have water tight sections that could be sealed off.

I miss the humor. Isnt part of the whole global warming (global climate change) issue about parts of the ice caps breaking away and or melting?

Seems like global warming cruise is struck my effects of global warming.

If it's a ship that small and run by a small private company, it's a fucking TUB.

Usually they are retrofitted freight liners or OLD passenger ships from the days when sea travel was still transportation.

Most boats that operate in Arctic waters have reinforced hulls and chambered bulkheads to keep something like this from happening. Guess the canuck hippies didn't feel like putting up the cash.

From what I've learned the water tight sections broke and they didn't have the experience or equipment to fix it. They lost power and when the pumps shuts down you're kind of doomed...
