FTV sets 219mph speed record *crazy video*

FTVRob and his 2008 Lamborghini Murcialgo LP640 set a speed record going 219mph

He found that road I was looking for. Mostly stright line for miles, rubberized asphalt, smooth...

He honestly didn't expect more than 207-210 at the most optimistic level... But take a look for yourself, he buried the needle to the 220mph mark. :o

baddog 11-24-2007 12:26 PM

Glad there was no one else on the road

tony286 11-24-2007 12:26 PM

does he have plans so when he wraps himself around a pole or tree, someone can still keep the business running?

Fucksakes 11-24-2007 12:27 PM

speed kills, buy gets you there faster

smack 11-24-2007 12:28 PM

you're an idiot for doing that on the street.

spacedog 11-24-2007 12:31 PM

Since when is 219mph a record? LOL.

My 68 buick would fly past any lambo doing a mere 219mph

Jessica Rosalini 11-24-2007 12:32 PM

save that shit for a track before you kill yourself or worse.

3:45 looked nuts

Shagbunny 11-24-2007 12:39 PM

when he passed a couple of cars they looked like they were parked

spacedog 11-24-2007 12:41 PM

BTW, if that's Robs Lambo, then why does the license plate say Chads?

Anyway, I concur... it's cool, but stupid. It only takes a blink of any eye for something to go disastrously wrong and on the streets, not only are there more variables but it could involve other people.

tony286 11-24-2007 12:43 PM

now if you get caught going that fast, how big is the ticket or do they just rip up the license right on the spot?

Arrested, impound of vehicle.

It's an arrestable offense. Driving to endanger.. Immediate revocation of license and HUGE fine..

I had to pay $1150 for doing just 185 in my Buick and that was because I got a break from the officer who could have arrested me, impounded my car & revoked my license.. Only thing that saved me is that I stopped for him, because he had no fucking chance in hell of ever catching me if I didn't stop.

Ross 11-24-2007 12:48 PM

Thats not cool, its not clever. Its really stupid. I hope I'm not reading a thread on GFY one day stating that Rob has been in a car accident. I really wouldn't be able to post anything nice in that thread...

He seems like a great guy, very business minded but maybe he needs to take his business brain onto the road when in a car.

Penny24Seven 11-24-2007 12:56 PM

looked cool to me,

evildick 11-24-2007 12:59 PM

Can't wait to see what he can do in the Veyron.

What do you have for an engine in your Buick, Spacedog?

sysk 11-24-2007 01:00 PM

if you want something real fast, watch the veyron do 250+ miles/hour

Scott McD 11-24-2007 01:04 PM

Not smart... :2 cents:

If I'm not mistaken, he owns one, or is on the waiting list to purchase one.

buzzy 11-24-2007 01:07 PM

Congrats on putting other peoples lives in danger

fris 11-24-2007 01:09 PM

serious business

Lia19 11-24-2007 01:11 PM

219 mph is not an everyday thing. Thats why it is documented so well. Rest assure that Rob is a very safe driver I ride with him all the time. When you are behind the wheel of a half million dollar car you become aware of everything around you while on the road. Not drive it like an asshole.

http://www.teensvialia.com/car02.jpg

FTV doesnt go out and party, drink, smoke, ect. He stays home and works all day, everyday. He has one pleasure and thats cars. Now its not really my thing but hey, to have the first 2008 in the country and set a speed record in it, is kinda cool. So please dont hate thats not why I started the thread.

tehHinjew 11-24-2007 01:12 PM

350 km/h

WOW

i want an m5, suits me better lol but too bad the m5 only hits 330kmh:(

[

Professional Formula 1 drivers with super liscences and get paid $50million dollars a year to drive cars still crash at around 190 MPH, it's not about how safe a driver you are it's just a bit stupid to do it on a public road :thumbsup

tehHinjew 11-24-2007 01:14 PM

ps: im sure there are 1000 hp supras around where FTV lives that have passed the 219 mph record of the lambo

evildick 11-24-2007 01:16 PM

Come on folks, as soon as he seen other vehicles he jammed on the binders. It's not like he was weaving in and out of traffic.

I feel safer with people like him out there doing this on almost barren stretches of highway at night, than I do with some lady doing 85 MPH on the way to work in the morning in heavy traffic trying to put her lipstick on.

spacedog 11-24-2007 01:17 PM

LOL, it was going so fast I thought the O in chaos was a D making it Chads :1orglaugh

kichi 11-24-2007 01:20 PM

who cares about top speed? can you really enjoy yourself at 219? i only care about acceleration which your car is not that impressive with. Also no speedo is accurate above 100mph.

Give me a car that tops out at 100 with a 0-60 in under 4 seconds and i'm a happy man.

Nothing will be wrapped at the speed, that car and everyone around it will be in nothin but debris.

But I've done 182 in mine so I'm not going to be the one lecturing. :Oh crap

Very well said. :thumbsup

punker barbie 11-24-2007 01:29 PM

that's one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard. even if he was able to be completely fucking omnipotent, and his reaction times god-like, there is too much potential for failure at those speeds on a public road.

cars are one of my main pleasures too. i race as often as possible in the summer. but only on the track. people doing stupid bullshit like this on public roads gives all enthusiasts a bad name.

How would you do 85 MPH in heavy traffic?

I'm not talking roadblock heavy traffic. It was just an random example of course, but I'm sure you know that.

If he posted a video that looked a bit more like this then I would probably call him stupid too.

Where do you live that you can do 85 MPH on the way to work in the morning? I drive in Indiana and there are few spots that I can hit 85 in morning traffic.

Ontario, about 3 hours from Toronto. There is not a lot of traffic in my area, but plenty of long, straight roads. Once you get to Toronto then it becomes gridlock.

fris 11-24-2007 01:48 PM

68 buick vs lambo, lol, its not april fools day yet

mynameisjim 11-24-2007 01:50 PM

I have to admit that is a cool video. But it is a little dangerous for the other people on the road.

Did you guys have spotters along the route? It looked like it since the cameras were set up to catch the drive bys.

MikeVega 11-24-2007 01:59 PM

its a cool video but he should keep it to the track. I'm still not sure how its a record? is there a street car record on the books or something? I'm sure it doesn't happen often but a record?

That's the biggest amount of bullshit I've ever heard. It doesn't matter how great you are, or think you are, at driving, at 219MPH, you're not aware of everything. Jesus.

The summary is this: he's got fast cars and enjoys going fast. Absolutely.
Is it safe, is it mature? Absolutely not. Look at how many people who dedicate their lives as racing drivers die regularlly, it more controlled conditions at less speed.

Edit: before someone jumps in - yep, I have stupid hobbies too, like running around in train tunnels. I know as much about it as I can, but I'd never even pretend for one minute that it was safe.
It's the same for this. Cool that you've got the balls to do it, but don't kid yourself that it's safe.

baddog 11-24-2007 02:09 PM

Thank God no one tried to enter the freeway at the same time he was playing this stupid stunt. We would be reading about a murder charge.

Well that's the thing right? Even if you're the best driver on the planet, you can't preempt the actions of others. Even something simple like someone changing lanes / overtaking - they're going to be judging their actions off what they know - ie, surrounding traffic will be doing max 70mph. They pull out, you slam into them, hurrah.

:thumbsup

On a street, you can NOT account for the stupidity of others... whether that be other drivers, animals or even drivers that were out there previously and may have blown a tire or lost something out of their trunk.

Would you see it and have enough time to avoid it at 219MPH?
No, not even if you're a really good driver.

There's no "safe" at those speeds and there's no being aware of everything.

There's a big difference between doing something exciting and putting your own life at risk...... and doing something exciting and endangering the lives of others.
