FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Fort Myers man has been charged with killing his kitten with a sledgehammer because it wasn't house trained.

Authorities said a neighbor called 911 and said he heard a loud bang coming from Lonnie White's home. He said he saw White throw the animal into the woods.

When deputies arrived, White told them he killed the kitten. He later showed an animal control officer where the animal was buried.

White has been released from jail on bond. He faces a felony charge of animal cruelty.

as harsh as that is, a generation or two ago it was common place to put an unwanted litter in a sack and throw it in the river. and a sledgehammer has to be quick - i doubt it suffered. what's the difference between kittens and minks, or rats ? felony charges is fucked, police state for sure

Charges aren't fucked. Huge difference between throwing unwanted kittens in a river( still bad ) and bashing one's head in with a hammer. I mean if that's his reaction to a kitten pissing on a rug, what if he ever had a baby and it shit and pissed everywhere? Is he going to hit it on the head with a hammer too?
