What is the best way to rip an uncopyrighted CD to mwv, avi, or mpegs?

I am a video novice...somebody gave me some tips. I have a bunch of CDs I want to rip and chop from some footage somebody filmed to make yourtube clips.

What is out there?

Or you could always just open windows media player and hit the "rip" feature.
