4 Arrested in Sean Taylor killing

MIAMI -- The Miami-Dade Police Department said on Friday it has arrested four people in connection with the death of Washington Redskins football star Sean Taylor.

Miami-Dade police department spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men as: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18.

Taylor, 24, died Tuesday, one day after being shot at his home in an affluent Miami suburb during what officials said appeared to be an attempted burglary.

The suspects didn't expect Taylor to be there, said Miami-Dade County police Director Robert Parker, but Taylor was recuperating from a knee injury and had returned home from Washington. When Taylor surprised them, he was shot.

"They were certainly not looking to go there and kill anyone," Parker said. "They were expecting a residence that was not occupied. So murder or shooting someone was not their initial motive."

Parker said that some of the suspects have confessed and that police aren't ruling out the possibility of more arrests in the case.

Police said that tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of the four suspects.

Taylor's father, Pedro Taylor, who is Florida's City's police chief, told reporters at an afternoon news conference that he had little information: "You have more information than I really have."

"They won't go into details because they don't want to compromise the case," Taylor said, adding he didn't want to do anything to jeopardize the case either.

Richard Sharpstein, a former Taylor lawyer and family friend, also confirmed the law enforcement report and said that police were searching a house.

The football player's home was also broken into a week before his fatal shooting. During the first intrusion, police said someone entered after prying open a window and then rifled through drawers and left a kitchen knife on a bed.

Taylor was shot during the break-in Monday morning. His girlfriend told officials someone entered their bedroom and fired two shots, one of which hit Taylor in the groin, severing his femoral artery.

The defensive star was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Taylor died Tuesday morning. His funeral will be held in Florida on Monday, when the entire Redskins team is expected to pay their respects.

The Redskins also announced that fans attending the team's Sunday game will receive a towel with Taylor's No.21 jersey on it and that his name will be displayed prominently in one of the end zones. Team owner Dan Snyder said in a statement the team will contribute a minimum of $500,000 to a fund to benefit Taylor's daughter.

Yeah, that's the kind of stupid reasoning a defense lawyer would use to try and lessen the sentence.

Whether they had intentions prior to the killing or not probably makes no difference to Taylor's family and friends. Fact is they shot him, they should fry for it.

Yeah, that's a tough break. I figure a couple life sentences each should be fair.

Initially, I would have suspected his girlfriend since he was shot in the groin in the bedroom, but it looks like it was just a bunch of dumb fuck wads.
