backlinks and link trades are not the same thing.

We have probably 10,000 backlinks, but not one trade.

Yep, pretty much..

So what are you supposed to do? Just let your site sit out there orphaned linkwise until google decides to come along and give you a one way link?

You just have to do them right. Like everything else.

Klen 12-03-2007 12:42 PM

Not with lo.

There are lots of ways to get one way incoming links without trading, as evidenced by our 10,000 incoming links.

One ways are not. Exchanges are a waste except for getting a new site off the ground at little cost.

baddog 12-03-2007 12:47 PM

If you must trade links, make sure they are relevant.

Barefootsies 12-03-2007 12:53 PM

Wow a lot of clueless people.

:disgust

They are not dead. Read Matt Cutts (Google) blog.

You can still do them. Just make sure you link to RELEVANT sites.

:2 cents:

you're still believe in Cutts? :) :)

It really depends on the site and the keywords and stuff. There are sites I have that are working in keywords that are not very competitive and I only have a dozen or so link trades and no one way incoming links and have great rankings. But that wouldn't work for competitive keywords. Doing link trades is a nice way to get your site noticed and indexed, but ultimately if you want to compete for the bigger keywords you will need one way links in.

link trades are so 90s
