Lakota Tribe Annexed From the US
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317548,00.html
I can appreciate their position feeling slighted by the government, but I don't think this is the best move for their people. The misery on the reservations is so far gone, how are they going to survive without the government assitance they used to get? Unemployement is out of control, how is that going to change now that they've cut their ties from the rest of the US? Any thoughts?:2 cents: |
Maybe they hope to boost their econmy by starting a war.

Interesting' move.
|
Well at least they have plenty of cough medicine.
|
I admire them and this bold move. How long can the native people stand to be fucked over by the US govt? This should get them and their plight the attention needed for correction!
|
lol russel means. That guy has tried so much shit around here. We are about 30 min south of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and see all sorts of crap. I have friends that teach at Pine Ridge High School, and hearing stories from up there about the kids, no wonder why nothing has gotten better when 80% of the parents could care less.

You mis-used the word "annexed". Annexed means for example when a country takes over a province that belongs to another country or is independent and adds it to the larger country or empire. I think that you mean that the Lakota seceded from the US, ie they want to seperate themselves from the US.

let em go on their own way. Watch how fast the schools goto shit, the hospitals die down. They are so highly government funded it isn't even funny. What about 80% of the others that stay at home waiting for the EBT card to get refunded so they can run to walmart and stock up on food. What will they do when they don't get that money from the gov?
|
does this mean that their agreements with the government on casino money are null and void?

Think they will fall for the small pox infested blankets trick again?

Interesting. Is it legal for one party to withdraw "unilaterally?"
If it means an ends to federal funding, it might not be so bad. The whole idea of the taxpayers forever supporting Indians seems wrong. |

It is a big drug haven, with the kids starting young bring drug runners and selling it at school etc. The natives really don't seem to mind though, and the "White" teachers have to stay away from it all or else they could lose their job etc. Bottom line is they are living poor and expecting the government to pay everything and give them more money every year rather then going out and trying to make their lives better. I know some very very nice Natives who are doing farely well, and it is awesome to see. But then they have the 80% that everyone like myself tends to talk about more often. It would be nice to see them not live in poverty, I don't want to see anyone living like that. But it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon, the way things are going. Atleast on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. |
I wonder what their policies will be on US citizens visiting their casinos. If they make it too much of a pain in the ass to visit their "country", wouldn't that effect the money they would even make off the casino?
I hope that this works for them, but I really don't expect this to go very far. |
Just send the millitary in to conquer them again. It's simple, Simon.

I want to be part of there tribe. Where do I sign up?

Renounce my citizenship to live on a dirt poor res with a bunch of drugged out, depressed and unemployed people? I think I'll stick with the US on this one.

Most "wealth" that the average person acquires is a result of real estate transactions, property values. Indians can't buy/sell their land. Large chunks of cash are there fore nonexistent. Nothing really appreciates in value either ...
Banks don't loan on property that can't be sold or doesn't appreciate. They really are in a fucked up situation unless oil/gas is found or a large population base is close for possible casino revenue. . |

Rich tycoons with a little bit of "tax abatement" might just move in and make that one small rich ass country.
"Dear Mr. Trump, would you like to build 10 schools and then never pay taxes again for the rest of your life? Then move here." Hmmmmmmmmmm...... |

they will build casinos and make beer, wine and liquor without worrying about the US getting their hands on it. They will be just fine, providing they have a few people that know what they are doing.
