That was hardly "getting his ass handed to him". I'm no libertarian but he's got good points on the foreign policy.

dude, i say that very rarely, but you are an idiot. :2 cents:

when someone wants to eliminate income tax he should have at least an idea how much that is and how to finance it. especially when it's something basic in his program.

and if someone wants to get all soldiers back home, he should at least know how many are out there.

for questions like this you don't need any extra preparation or commercial breaks - not if you think you are able to run a country (it's almost comical that your mind is already so polluted that you think commercial breaks is something you need in a political debate - awesome).

the only sheep in here is you

I'm doubtful a guy with a medical degree from Duke and 13 books to his credit is even more stupid than Bush. In fact, it's possible Ron Paul has written more books that Bush has read.

You're obviously a big Meet the Press fan.

There are usually only commercials during segment breaks, and on the meet the candidates episodes there are often none.

dready 12-24-2007 09:40 AM

That wasn't an ass handing. That was using flawed criticisms on purpose to give Ron a chance to shoot them down. It gives the illusion of being tough. For Ron, it's much more effective than throwing him softballs.

Ok. You think you made some kind of intelligent post about how you think things work.

question 1: who do you support?
question 2: how did they get out of using earmarks?
question 3: how did that candidate not take tax money to help its citizens instead of giving it to private interestst to do as they wish.

Man this was a total HATCHET job on meet the press. What a fucking hostile interview. I would have punched that fat ass interviewer in the face!

All the questions were loaded, and it appeared he was just fishing for sound bites. Like when he asked him- Ron Paul you say you support the constitution but they you want to amend it. Like amending the constitution is unconstitutional? And he asked him the same question again, looking for him to falter.

Then he spent most of the time finding old press clippings from TWENTY f*in years ago and asking Ron Paul to explain them. Wow.

Ron Paul did get flustered over the earmarking question, and its something he needs to hammer out. It appears to be hypocritical, but he has a valid point- if the money is there, take it.

And Madolton- he did answer that question with specific numbers. He said that the federal income tax on individuals accounts for around 1 trillion dollars a year. He also said that bringing our 500,000 (approximately) troops home could save up to a trillion dollars over time, but that it wouldn't happen quickly. but he did hammer the point that it would start to save 100's of billions within a year or two.

mikesouth 12-24-2007 10:31 AM

the only person who got his ass handed to him is young for starting this thread and the people who voted for the current asshat sitting in the oval office.

If you dont like Ron Paul thats fine and dandy, if you aren't bright enugh to understand what he is saying you should probably take some advice from Mark Twain

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear to be a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt"

Asking him to remember a bunch of numbers is like asking your accountant to memorize your ledgers. You're supposed to be able to look at the numbers and make an informed, educated decision, not walk around all day memorizing them.

Did the interviewer know the numbers - before he researched, and wrote them down? :D C'mon.

I don't give a shit what anybody says, I'm voting for Ron Paul. It's time we get back to basics. We just can't keep going down the same path we have been.

Anything is better than what we have now and I think it will be very interesting watching Ron Paul in office as President of the United States!

What have you got to loose?

Cant get much worse than it is now. :2 cents:

Enjoy your income tax then! Because the most brilliant minds in the USA are running your government. They were chosen from the top schools for being the best at solving problems, listening to their people and leading the nation. There are clearly no people better for the job.

They know EXACTLY how much they're raping you for!

Get a clue man. The people at the top make blanket rules/ideas, then those ideas get filtered through STATISTICIANS who work out MODELS, and then those MODELS get documented and PRESENTED to the LEADERS to make a decision.

You're expecting Ron to do... All of that himself? Or are you suggesting he would do away with all those filters? He would just fire everyone, grab a hammer and RULE?

You're only making yourself look like an idiot for applying one-sided logic in effort to prove your point. Try being a little bit more moderate, and try to find a real answer rather than just playing chicken little.

AcidMax 12-24-2007 11:07 AM

What bothered me is his statement to remove the IRS and cut all that income to the government, but yet he thinks the FBI, CIA etc should still be around, he just doesn't want them to torture people. OK, how does he truly expect to keep the government running? When you go in and start saying that you want to cut the troops, the irs, etc.., you should probably have a generic idea as to how much money it costs to run the government agencies he wants to cut, how many troops are spread throughout the us. I don't think he has to know every stat for every political question, but if this is your platform you are running on it would make sense to be able to have a guesstimate like Tim Russert had on the number of troops.

IMHO that interview did very little to help his cause. I am not sure who I am voting for at this point, Ron Paul has some descent ideas., but some are just left field.

You dont think

invading countries for no reason is not from left feild?
using our soldiers as oil placeholders for monetary gain.
the middle class dissapearing while the low class grows at alarming rates.
spying on our own people.
paying more than a third of your income for health insurance that is worthless.
paying more than a third of your income in taxes just for being born.

oh man, i'm really at a loss of words here. is that how politics are done in your country? pathetic

if i was ron paul and had the idea of eliminating the income tax i would sit down and look up how much that is per year. then i would know how much money i need to get from other sources or how much i had to cut expenses. then i would think about which expenses could be cut by how much without causing too much harm etc...
all this i would do before i even announce for the first time that i would like to become president and give interviews. and you can bet that if that is a basic point in my program you could more or less ask me ANY question about it anytime of the day. cause that's what every responsible politician should do before he tries to get people voting for his ideas.

at least that's how it works in my country

First off lose your holier than thou attitude. No one was Ron Paul bashing. I do like the guy, but he has good and bad points. My statement was that if you are campaigning on a specific platform (no taxes, no irs, bring home the troops, government reform) there are some things you should have quick answers to and stats for your answers.

Being that I am a vet I care greatly for the troops who are fighting. Do I think we are widespread over the world, you bet, always have. Do I think we can just withdrawl everyone in a few years and all will be ok. Nope.

There is no doubt that there needs to be reform and that Bush is not the best president to ever grace the White House.

It seems that if someone uses logical thought processes instead of emotion you get upset. Sit down, relax and read what people say and discuss their opinions, don't sit there and bash everyone who believes in something different than you do.

He thinks we should explore the ideas of getting rid of the IRS etc. Not just do it. Hes an interesting man. I am afraid he will scare the average sheep as sheep do not like change but it is refreshing to hear some different ideas.

As far as the interview he certainly wasn't at his best but I don't think it was that bad. Any sort of press is good for him right now.

Look a couple posts back, I believe I stated I have no idea who I would vote for. If I had a candidate I would personally vote for I would have made that statement, however in my first post I stated that I had no idea who I was voting for at this point.

Secondly even if I did, I don't think I owe you or anyone else an answer as to who my candidate would be if I did have one. This thread was about Ron Paul specifically. I don't think having answers for the platform you are running on is a small issue. If I was to say "I can cure world hunger" i would think people would expect me to be knowledgeable and have answers as to how I would do it. Just as if Ron Paul says I would bring all the troops home, you would think he would know how many troops are distributed around the world and have a better idea of how he would handle that withdrawal.

I believe he stated many times that he would take some of the huge amount of wasted money on foreign policy thats wastefull and not working anyways. Bring the money back to our country instead of supplying the saudies and there would be more than enough to eliminate these federal functions that only take and DO NOT GIVE. Sorry I too was a veteran and have been deployed multiple times with NATO and if you beleive that our guys are getting any of the money the other guys are saying goes there you are not living in the real world and I would have to doubt that you really served.

In Canada, the income tax law was passed as a temporary war effort ( that is WW2 , not the Gulf war ...:1orglaugh:1orglaugh ).

Before that, the gov was running on the funds that it was getting from various other sources ...

... and deficit didn't exist .

He started throwing out the "trillion" number as a response to everything because he had no clue. You are aware of course that 100's of billions is only a small fraction of a trillion, right? And with no income tax . . . well . . .

By the way, you did hear him mention use fees for the highways, right? Can you imagine LA with toll roads? How many major cities have you driven in that had toll roads? How many toll roads have you been on that weren't meant as a shortcut?

Let me tell you, they suck, and for the most part, the toll roads I have been on in other states totally suck. I can't believe they are charging me to drive on them.

Then of course, there are the toll roads that are actually owned by other countries. Those are a real piece of work. :2 cents:

Its obvious who the uneducated are.
The same people who think welfare and food stamps are necessary. Noone to blame but themselves.

Sorry I too was a veteran and have been deployed multiple times with NATO and if you beleive that our guys are getting any of the money the other guys are saying goes there you are not living in the real world and I would have to doubt that you really served.

Oh I completely agree the vets are underpaid and under-geared. When I was in, (91-95) as a 91B (Combat Medic). I was working up to 96 hours a week. It worked out to be like $1-2 an hour or some crazy shit like that. I value our troops greatly and appreciate them for everything that they do. But once again this thread was not about, you, me or any of the other candidates. This thread was about Ron Paul. The fact is he could have done a lot better job during an interview with Tim Russert on Meet the Press. As a presidential candidate they should always be prepared to answer the tough questions (that goes with any candidate) that pertain to their platform.

Yeah that's right. Ron Paul is one of the biggest fundies in the running.:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

What makes this thread funny is that you have had that in the WH as president:
