GSP vs Hughes 3 + Wand vs Chuch

Since i'm banned at mma.tv, i'll be posting my MMA threads here from now on.

Will you guys be checking this PPV? surely way better than the last one. 5 rounder for the interim title...

My predictions:

GSP by TKO r2
Wand by KO r1

Why were you banned?

I have a feeling Wandy will get caught eventually, similar to the Henderson fight.

Hughes will not attempt to stand up with GSP this time, and wins by GnP or sub on the ground. GSP only had a month to train for this one.

I wonder if the announcement that Mayweather is looking at MMA as a possible career route holds any water. I think with some good takedown defense (ala Chuck Liddell), he'd be quite the force in the 145lb. division. Another Anderson Silva, x10.

GSP would not take this fight if he knew he wasn't ready. Also, Hughes won't be able to take GSP down. GSP will stuff 90% of Hughe's takedowns so what you are saying is impossible in the real world.

Thinking you're ready and being ready are different things. I'm sure he thinks he's ready, no doubt.

If the fight gets pushed up against the cage (very possible), Hughes can take him down. GSP can stuff him out in the middle of the octagon, but not if he's pressed against the cage.

My predictions :

GSP has an awesome wrestling, and after what I've seen agaisn't KOS I'd think he would have been able too outwrestle Matt Hugues... But Matt Hugues for the first time in his career has a real trianing, as well as a nutritionist and everything else a pro athlete should have arround him (no more steak and potatoes for him).

So either Matt by decision, or GSP by brutal domination. I'm rooting for GSP.

As far as Wand VS Lidell... I think it's a bad styles matchup for Wand, fighting the best counter striker in the business... I really hope he catches Lidell early with a wild hoop, but that one will prbably go to Chuck if he stays methodical.

I think if Wand wins, it will be in the first. If Lidell figures his striking out, then he's probably going to take it. Wand, GSP and Fedor are my fav fighters, they are all fighting that night :P Can't wait !

Evil E 12-24-2007 12:20 PM

Yeah hopefully Wand shoes up in shape and not all bloated like last time. He's probably off the juice because of the testing done in the US.

And here are some pics from GSP's training camp in Montreal.

Speaking of Fedor, think that 7 foot monster will present any problems for him getting the takedown? I think he'll win the fight, but unlike most people who view Fedor as a "god", I think he'll have a tough time getting in close on that guy. Might be more interesting than most are expecting.

"There was also some speculation around the gym, although St-Pierre did not confirm this, that he had actually been ANTICIPATING the possibility of Serra pulling out of the fight and thus had been going through his regular intensive training rituals for 12 weeks leading up to the fight.

This is interesting because his Dec. 29 opponent, Matt Hughes has repeatedly stated that one of the factors he chose to take the fight was that because he felt St-Pierre may not have had sufficient time to prepare."

We'll see on the 29th! :thumbsup

Can't wait to see this fight. Fedor was able to beat Semmy Shilt by decision who is similiar in height to this asian dude, but Choi is even 100lbs heavier than Schilt, outweighing Fedor by over 120 lbs.

It would be a horrible upset if Choi wins it. (which I doubt he will)

Evil E 12-24-2007 01:05 PM

I don't think these kind of matches should be allowed, the dude should be a super heavy... :2 cents:

Hmmm. And if Fedor totally dominates and submits this guy in the first round, you'd still feel that way?

Evil E 12-24-2007 01:29 PM

Positive.

Gman.357 12-24-2007 01:34 PM

Well, I think a super-heavyweight division is only possible when you have enough guys to populate the ranks. What weight would be the cut-off? Would there be many guys who wanted to be in it, considering HW might be only a few lbs to cut anyway, and it's a much more noteable division?

I think SHW isn't something MMA would be looking to establish voluntarily.

If he dont he should be booted far from the top ten. Hes fighting someone with the reflexes of a goat.

Gman.357 12-24-2007 01:37 PM

A SHW division might be considered nothing but a side-show weight class for overgrown freaks or obese bastards too lazy to cut the weight. Not many guys would want to be the champ of that kind of division I'm affraid.

Oh I think that he would fall far from the top 5 for sure, and possibly round out the bottom of the top 10. You wouldn't be able to kick him out of the top 10 entirely, because his recent past record has to be considered at this point.

But it would definitely destroy the potential of a Randy/Fedor dream fight.

VeriSexy 12-24-2007 09:43 PM

gooooo wandy!

That would suck for sure. There are so many things that can ruin that fight between now and October. Im holding my breath.

Doctor Dre 12-24-2007 11:42 PM

The Super Heavyweight freakshow division would be popular in japan if a big show emerges there once again. I doubt it would get regulated in the US.

But I agree there should be a 265+ division, freakshows are fun to watch.

Doctor Dre 12-24-2007 11:53 PM

Pride had lots of freak shows, other then the guys I named, more then a dozen others super heavy fought in the org.

For sure it wouldn't be the deepest division in MMA, but it could been damn funny to watch.

Mark Hunt, Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia, Butterbean Bob Sapp, are fighters that would fit 265 + .

Other less talented fighters : Dan Bobish, Tom Erikson, Zulu etc.

I would love to see Hunt go at Sylvia. Watching fedor get out of that kamura was the shit. i though hunt had him for a minute there.

Doctor Dre 12-25-2007 12:08 AM

Hunt would probably destroy Sylvia.

I dont know about that. people dont give him enough credit because of some lackluster performances but hes a very skilled fighter. I wouldnt say destroy.

Bojangles 12-25-2007 12:24 AM

I hope Wandy wins.

Doctor Dre 12-25-2007 12:27 AM

notoldschool Hunt gave trouble to everybody he fought, and I think he'd be a bad matchup for Silvia. Better striker, and I doubt Silvia could submit Hunt.

notoldschool 12-25-2007 12:44 AM

Dont get my wrong, I have seen hunt fight quite a few times and hes got skills for sure but he wouldnt just roll over Sylvia. Sylvie's stand up is very good as well.

Doctor Dre 12-25-2007 01:11 AM

Yeah but not on PAR with Hunt. Hunt was K-1 Champion... the guy has a head made out of bricks. No way he'd get koed by Silvia

Evil E 12-25-2007 10:51 AM

Hunt is one of my fave fighters, and like Doctor Dre said, his head is hard as concrete. I'm sure he could hang with Sylvia no problem, and even make him look bad.

notoldschool 12-25-2007 10:53 AM

it would be very interesting for sure. No cake walk.
