Haha McDonalds Vs Starbucks, place your bets.

Seems Mcdonalds is taking Starbucks on head to head now. Mcdonalds is now adding coffee bars to its 14,000+ locations in the US.

aico 01-07-2008 08:00 PM

Starbucks is actually going to be closing some US locations. Their stock has dropped about 50% in the last year.

tony286 01-07-2008 08:01 PM

They are two different beasts and experiences.

Starbucks added drive through and breakfast sandwiches, McDonald's reacted with upgrading its coffee and now this.

They both want the breakfast commuter crowd.

Anyone want to compete? My coffee is better than either of them can do.

that's been in the works for some time the hold has been mac owners not wanting to lay out the $$$ for the new gear to make the coffee drinks.

Where did Starbucks add breakfast sandwichs? Mine doesnt have them. Sitting in a starbucks is a different experience than sitting in a micky d's. Its nicer and the employees tend to be a totally different class of employee.

My Starbucks has breakfast sandwiches, and they are just as nasty as McDonalds breakfast sandwiches.

You know, I had heard this somewhere else and was wondering if it was true. I remember even a couple of years ago every Starbucks I set foot in had a line of at least 5 people waiting to get coffee at any given time, and at least 10 people at the Starbucks' with mall locations. Now it seems like most Starbucks I enter are dead by comparison...

=^..^= 01-07-2008 10:09 PM

Starbucks always serves burnt coffee - disgusting

I think the US will soon see the appearance of what Australians have known for 10+ years as McCafe....
macdonalds own coffee and cakes/muffins only stores... no burgers or fries.. just CAFE.

They added sandwiches at a couple of my local ones about a year ago. And yes, Starbucks is a lot nicer than McD's.

I think Starbucks will win but their coffee has been reduced to a burnt bitter taste to cover the fact they buy from so many cheap and varied sources. I own a few Cafe's and know how sweet real coffee tastes. Starbucks is a great company but they dont serve coffee !!!

DaddyHalbucks 01-07-2008 10:46 PM

I go into McDonalds for only 1 reason: to piss.

Starbucks is a great quality brand.

I think the consensus is that they roast their beans longer.

Personally, I would never go there for a "coffee" but their latte's are almost as good as mine.

No shit. I used to think their coffee tasted like shit because I was geting it at 10 AM then one day I went in right at opening an it still tasted like it had been sitting in the pot all morning.

I've never been to a Starbucks. I'm not paying $4 for faggotty coffee.

I was told I should open up a shop across the street from every Starbucks and give them a run for their money.

I personally love Starbucks coffee. It's insanely overpriced and I get how it is a rip off, but I can't help it. When I'm at places that have them, I'm there every morning. :)

Just caught this story on the news... does seem they're going head to head.

As was said, Starbucks is likely to close some of it's more unprofitable stores, and is rehiring their old CEO that left them in 2000 to, once again, fill the post.

Should be fun.

Good, I don't know how poeple have patience to wait in line for 10 minutes, and pay 4 bucks for a cup of coffee. Seems like a scam to me.

Then you have everyone sitting around with their laptops pretending to be working so they can hook up with someone. Just seems weird. :helpme

Even they admitted it was shit and they went way more robust, now its no dunkin donuts quality but its a shit load better and black versus black it kicks starbucks ass and costs about 4 times less.

Haha McDonalds often have wifi as well, found this out recently. Yet this has a perk that starbucks does not have. Many McDonalds also have indoor playgrounds for the kidlets which equals near free baby sitting while stay at home working mommy does her online business and sipping coffee all day. Then before you say it they do offer healthy choices now for kids like juices and stuff.

As a company that is one company I would not want to have them publically aiming their guns at you. They have the money, power, and presence to actually keep you out of countries.

Have you come across a dutch bros coffee stand yet? You may need to head more north from like Sacramento to Oregon to find them. I really do like them and they are far from as whats that word stuck up as starbucks.

Ross 01-08-2008 02:21 AM

Mc Donalds for food, starbucks for coffee. Simple.

For me it all starts with the beans and yes you should grind your own as you use them. Like spices once ground they begin to loose their flavor near instantly. Find yourself a bean type that you really like, if you are not sure you can join one of the many coffee clubs like Gevalia. They will send you a free coffee maker and maybe some insulated cups just for signing up. Forget the maker though and hell give it as a gift to someone. Now go order yourself like 5 bags of beans, pay attention to how much you drink and it will tell you how often you should get shipments. Now as each arrive grind some up and give them a taste and write down some notes. Do this until you find a bean you like. I personally am very fond of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee as is. Though I have made my own blends from assorted beans that missed a note here and there (hence the notes).

Get yourself a spice grinder or coffee bean grinder your choice just a matter of price an if you get a spice grinder remember its for coffee only.

Next a french press coffee maker. Yup zero technology at work, glass, stainless steel plunger, and a lid.

Stainless steel tea pot or if your like me and like productivity get yourself an electric kettle and I like the one Braun makes. Boils anything super fast.

Then your most important issue is your water. If your tap water does not taste perfect get yourself a filter system for it. Water choice is often the number one reason why coffee tastes like crap next to crappy beans.

Now I am sure some will say get some super deluxe wonder machine that grinds the beans, makes all forms of coffee and all that jazz for several hundred to a few grand. If you go this route just go Italian models and I hope you really love coffee. They are worth it, just not that worth it to me as I go through times when I am more into teas than coffee's.

Had some about 3 weeks ago. Once again right at opening so it should have been fresh. Tasted like the same crap I had before year ago. I shouldn't need a dozen packs of sweet and low just to make coffee somewhat drinkable. I guess if you like your coffee blacker than Wesley Snipes then maybe it's good.

I still use gevalia, do not ask why. They are probably a bit over priced but everything is fresh and shipping is decent and they allow me to pick a good schedule. Not to mention they send me crap like coffee makers and stuff which means one less gift to buy someone.

Hell send me your email, I will refer you and get myself a free carafe which I actually do need and you will get a nice stainless steal coffee maker and a stainless steal measuring spoon right now I think. We both benefit. Just keep in mind to always order at least 5 boxes at a time I think as a minimum to save on shipping though I think the base shipping is like 6.95 and then it goes up as you spend but not by much.

Oh I also like their seasonal offerings, and some of the other odd things they do. You can pick regular or decaf (in pre ground only), and then whole bean or pre ground and I think they offer pods now too.

Yet I warn ya do not use them for tea's I have a much better company for that as well. Ya I have about thirty types of loose leaf tea in my house and a good 20 boxes of assorted herbal tea bags. Found one called white christmas (yup seasonal) which I became instantly addicted to so I hit them up post haste and ordered myself an additional 20 boxes of it to make sure I had enough to last me until next christmas
