Are Night Owls Doomed to Fail in the Biz?
I am very much a night owl. Anytime I take a holiday, my entire routine gets turned upsidedown as my body natural "rights" itself to sleeping in late and going to bed late.
This really wreaks havoc with my work life when I try to get back into the swing of things. Currently, I'm finding it hard to fall asleep before 4am, and get up before noon. Do you think that the hours someone works in this business affects them as much as it would in a mainstream business where most companies keep the hours of 9-5? I always worry that I'm shooting myself in the foot by not rising early and working from 9 - 5. |
Depends...
A lof of the business I do with people ends up being handled in the wee morning hours or very very late at night... This industry is filled with people working off the wall hours... All boils down to how productive you can be IMHO. |
If you work for yourself, work whatever hours are best for you. I find I do better work at night. Plus it's easier to get a hold of people around the world when you mix up your hours.
|
I wondering the same.. my schedule is all fucked up.
|
Become a day owl too and you will be ok :) Sleep when you're dead. Its overrated anyway. You only need 3 hours anyway . A day not week you tweekers hahaha
|
I had a schedule, but now I work whenever. I actually get a lot more done this way... I'm getting fatter though.
|
if it works for you, then it works.
|
just wake up you lazy buggers! :P
go to bed at whatever time you want, but set a limit at the time you can sleep in during the day. Anything past 11am is bad cause the rest of the world moves on without you. Any business meetings you have should happen early in the morning or late at night, the rest of your time should be devoted to actual work on your sites. If you don't need to work on your sites, then either you have succeeded or your not working hard enough |
yea my schedule is screwed too,
I got out of bed today at 6:30 pm :( I find I sit around twiddling my thumbs and reading useless blogs if I try to work during the day though, much more productive after midnight :) |
being in europe, I find i actually make more money if i stay up until 3-4 am every day.
|
Try waking up to take your kid to kindergarden with a messed up schedule. :Oh crap
|
Not if you are located in Europe :winkwink:

Thomas Edison kept a cot in his lab incase he got tired. Otherwise he slept during the day.

That sais, I now have a 6 year old in elementary school and that pretty much forces me to get up at 7 am everyday so I naturally just do my time after I get back from dropping her off, and I seem to get more work done on this schedule. |
My life is a constant battle trying to be awake at the right times.....
I am meant to work 1:30 to 9:30 pm - even those hours are hard. I find its 10 or 11 am and I am still awake then I pass out. Its 3:30 am here and I just got up.... |
I'm a night owl but I get consistently woken up by my little girl every morning. During the holidays I've also had my afternoon nap (which I take at the same time as her) disturbed as she wakes up. So I get woken up twice a day. Can't win. :(
|
I forgot to mention the mother in law who calls at least once per day, often during said daughter's (and daddy's) nap
|
The adult biz is prolly one of the best suited to night owls. Some of the most succesful people I know will reply to my 11pm message at 5 am on ICQ
|
I work best during the night honestly. Noone else awake, nice and peaceful. It's the perfect time for me to focus and get everything done and usually I'll get even more done just because of the aforementioned.
|
I have a messed up sleep pattern as well :(
but I don't think it effects my work productivity online |
Sounds like we have a lot of night owls and insomniacs here, hehe. I figured we would though.
I think it's just my mother's voice in my head telling me I have to be up in the mornings. If I'm not getting up in the mornings, I feel all weird and guilty. But why? I like that Thomas Edison was brought up. He wasn't the only one who knew that laying down and resting when you felt like you needed to was helpful for the brain. Apparently Einstein would also take naps whenever the mood struck. |
i typically goto bed around 4-5:00am when i'm not working a day job and only focusin on my online work. there's less distraction at 2:00am than 2:00pm. i can just sit down and go at it. in this line of work, if it is a fulltime job, i don't really think it matters when you're working, just so long as you are...

me = night owl too, you're not alone :thumbsup
