Best Anti Virus Software ?

Just bought a new comp (with Vista :disgust) and about to set up the anti-virus software. I used Avast before.

What you guys using just now ??

VicD 01-14-2008 08:54 AM

NOD32 eset.com by far the best antivirus solution

pornask 01-14-2008 08:55 AM

AVG hands down.

Unlimited 01-14-2008 08:57 AM

go with NOD32

CIVMatt 01-14-2008 08:59 AM

NOD32 Hands Down... (AVG is good too)

Sosa 01-14-2008 09:01 AM

we use avg free. Doesn't take up a ton of resources etc.

DateDoc 01-14-2008 09:02 AM

Kaspersky and BitDefender are consistantly rated in the top 3 on almost every review site I've come across since last year.

I replaced my AVG with Kaspersky and it found several things hidden on my system that AVG never did, including a keylogger trojan.

Tried Nod32 and found it to be a piece of crap. I use TrendMicro.

Smells like bullshit. AVG is the only antivirus on the market that has had 100% success rate in virus removal. Other Av programs caught up, but I remember back at MS DOS and Windows 3.1 times when Norton and other always missed a virus here and there on tests. AVG is the only one that's never failed. To me 99% success rate is not good enough. I find it hard to believe AVG would not eliminate a trojan. I smell major bullshit.

EonBlue 01-14-2008 09:35 AM

I think Avast is the best free virus scanner but I recently replaced it and ZoneAlarm with the NOD32 Smart Security suite - virus scanner, firewall, spyware blocker, spam blocker. So far it has been excellent and is very easy on the resources.

Another good free one is ThreatFire. It scans based on behaviour instead of a signature file so it can catch 0-day viruses. I run it along side NOD32 without problem.

Check this site for AV ratings:

Twisted Dave 01-14-2008 10:36 AM

I bought OneCare ... it does everything and seems pretty solid :)

Mike Semen 01-14-2008 10:38 AM

Kaspersky seems to do a good job for me right now.

roly 01-14-2008 10:54 AM

i've used avg for years, but i had a paranoid moment the other day and thought i would try something else to double check and avira antivir found something avg didn't.

I'm not sure why you think I would bullshit about something like that, but whatever.

AntiVir (http://www.free-av.com) - I've tested it myself against a few others (Panda, Shitton (Norton), McHogallthefuckingresources-Affe, Avast, AVG etc.) and found it to detect the most viruses whilst using the fewest resources. Not to mention it's free and has free updates, rootkit detection, MBR protection - I could go on.

But if you don't want to use it, fair enough; just promise me you won't use "OOOOHHH! DID YOU REALLY WANT TO PRESS THE START BUTTON? COULD BE A FUCKING VIRUS OF DOOOOM!" piece of shit that is Norton.

newsflash: we're not using ms dos and windows 3.1 anymore. The other ones caught up and they are better. And 100% success rate? COME ON. :1orglaugh

eMonk 01-15-2008 11:37 PM

i'm also happy with nod32... it runs quiet in the background and has a nice clean simple interface... :thumbsup

woj 01-16-2008 12:01 AM

avg is pretty good for a free solution...

Matt 26z 01-16-2008 12:04 AM

The problem with the review sites is they consider ease of use, customer support, system resources, etc... in their reviews and not just virus detection. Not to mention a lot of reviews are just glorified advertising.

So check this out instead. A must see before choosing your AV...
